getrag from an 86 gt, and i am having an issue setting up
the new cables. i did get new cables for the 5 speed, a 5
speed shifter and the brackets for the cables. i am hoping
someone can help me figure out what i am not seeing or
doing right.

This may be an obvious question, but the shifter cables you got were for a 5-spd getrag tranny, right?

Cables for a 5-spd Isuzu won't work and neither I suspect would cables for a 4-spd getrag.

Not as obvious as you would think, I started off with Isuzu cables and brackets before I did research and realized what I had and that they wouldn't work. I started off with a pile of parts, including the Isuzu cables and brackets. I did order the getrag cables from the Fiero store. And got the brackets from the Fiero factory.

I swapped a 5-spd Isuzu into my '84, but I have no experience with 5-spd getrags.

Someone else may be able to better advise you, but you're going to have to at least describe what the issue is that you're having a problem with.

just realized Saturday night that I had been lied to
about the transmission i had put into my fiero. it is a 5
speed, but it is not the Getrag i was made to believe it
was. it is actually the Isuzu 5 speed. i really wish i
had seen this forum a long time ago,

http://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/063783.html

there are pictures of all 3 transmissions put in the
fieros. so if anyone out there is looking for an Isuzu
trans. let me know, i have 1 laying around that i dont
want. i went and found a getrag 2 hours away, so i
wouldn't have to start over with getting all the brackets
and cables for the isuzu trans.
