I've got two Fieros I'd like to move in the next week (neither one of which is driveable), both within the east side of Vancouver. Each one only has to be towed a few miles under easy conditions. One of them would be going to Clynt's place. There's a very slim chance that a friend who lives in Mission might be bringing his large utility trailer into Vancouver in the next few days, but I can't really count on that. I have no other access to trailers or tow dollys, other than renting them of course. I don't even have a truck, but fortunately I do have a friend not too far away who has a pickup truck. So... could I not just use a tow bar instead? Used ones seem reasonably priced. I realize the nose will have to come off each Fiero, but that's not really a problem. And both Fieros have manual trannys. Next question is - Where does the tow bar connect to? I've taken some pictures of my Fiero parts car and using a large white "O", I've indicated where I think the bar could be connected. However, I've never used a tow bar before, so I'd appreciate some feedback on this.
And hey, I might as well put the word out while I'm here... If any club member has a way of moving these Fieros and would like to help out, I'd be most grateful. I would at least cover your gas, probably more!

Not just on here Patrick, but I don't think I have ever seen a Fiero used on a tow bar ever. It must have been done, but I have just never personally seen in it 15 years of Fieros.

For less than renting a trailer for one day, a tow bar can be bought that can be used over and over again. This one is at Boss Tools. Is there some unspeakable problem with tow bars? Seriously, I'm getting the distinct impression that tow bars are not popular. Why is this? I'm not "stuck" on using a tow bar, but I'd really like to hear why no one in the club appears to favour their use.

Well for one, it requires the nose to be removed. Most people would rather pay the 50 bucks for a tow truck than re and re a nose just for a quick transport. If they knew they were going to be towing a lot of Fiero's then buying a proper dolly would make sense to them. Also IIRC you can't tow an auto with a tow bar. It will burn out the trans in short order as the motor is not running to spin the trans pump yet the drive wheels are being turned on the ground. I am betting there are more reasons, I pay $5 per month on my Rogers Cell phone and I think I get 5 tows a year. (I might have to get creative with plates) However get in good with a towing company and they will right up the paper work so it says they towed any car you want written down.

Back in July I had a GT towed from Muncie's impound lot just off Marine Way to about Boundary and 29th Avenue. Less than 10 km and took about 15 minutes. That was over 80 bucks! You can see why I'm not too keen on getting a tow truck to shuffle these cars.

On a buddy's large utility trailer. I was too stressed to bother with my camera or camcorder [EDIT] Here's a couple images of the other Fiero. Both this and the one I took to Clynt's place were transported in his manner. I had to take the noses and rear bumpers off to make them fit on the trailer!
