I totally forgot to mention it at last nights meet, but....
a somewhat "known" mod has been to swap out your door striker with this one: It's a Motormite "Help!" product that you can get from Lordco, # 38421. You need: a Torx T-47 and a T-45, and appropriate ratchet. Open door. Remove OEM striker with T47. Remove the washer from your new one by unthreading it. Remove the grey nylon sleeve. Replace the washer. Thread the new striker into the hole. A gentle push upwards while you tighten it (about 50lbs should do) will help. Enjoy your ability to drive with the window and no longer get a CLUNK over every tiny bump! Skill level: 1 Cost: about $15-20. Swap time: 5 min's Satisfaction: Priceless. |

I'm glad we have 2 doors, and that you hadn't installed it on one of the rear doors.... cough....

I can't take the credit for this one...
Tim actually found it somewhere and tried it first. I just tried it also, and found it worked. There IS one you can get at NAPA that's actually cheaper, but I didn't want to post it until I'd actually tried it. I bought one there and have it still in the package, but haven't taken the calipers to it. It's probably the same though. Probably. :) |

Ok!
It's now been confirmed with empirical testing - the NAPA part # 675-5138 works fine and dandy. And Capt Dave has 1/2 a quieter car (only had one pin to install in his drivers door). :D I can't make any price guarantee's of course, but in my findings, this was cheaper than the Lordco version (sorry Jim!). |

Hey DOC,
Thanks for posting this tip! Just installed both sides. I'm much happier about this than the whole widebody thing! JOHN#14 |
