After owning a 3800 S/C Grandprix GTP, I can now see why these motors are popular for Fiero's.  If you stay out of the boost they are great on gas, however open the throttle wait for a second and away you go.  With the lower torque ratings it does not bust parts because it gradually builds power and screams.  I have no doubt my 4.9 would kill a 3800 S/C in stock form for the first 1/2 track , but after that the 3800 would catch me and drive right on by.

On the 3800's the computer or vacuum somehow disables the blower when at cruise.  I don't understand how it works, but it is to save gas when you are at cruise.  The drawback is you don't get instant boost it takes at least 1 second when you go from cruise to Full Throttle before you see the boost gauge come up, and its not totally linear with RPM Either.  You can be at 4000rpms and still be at vacuum until you put your foot into it.  I don't understand how they do it or how it works, but thats the way it reacts.  Next time you are in the area, drop by and I'll let you take it for a spin.  But you have to leave the traction control "ON" so I have some tires left when you are done.

Tires are cheap!

That is odd, the simple nature of a positive-displacement supercharger should render that counter-productive. Then again, it is GM, so I'll take your word for it.
