2013 Jet City Fieros Arlington Picnic June 1st

Held at the Arlington Washington Ultralight Airfield
4796 188th St NE Arlington, WA 98223

This picnic is a must attend for all Northwest Fiero lovers.
All are welcome. This is not a show, just a get together.
So bring your work in progress, daily driver or show car.

We start at 10:00AM and end around 3:00PM

This is a great event, with lots and lots of cars every year.

Bring your own food, There will be a BIG grill for all to use and a
delicious cake provided by Jet City Fieros.

We will have a lift again this year to take pictures with an eye in the sky view.

Only 3 and a half weeks away.

Who all plans on going down this year?

June 1st is a Saturday, so that works out well for the autocross guys as the PCA event is on Sunday, June 2nd.

Going down to the Arlington picnic is always a weather dependant thing, for me anyway. I have no desire to drive down there in the rain, but if it's nice, I plan to go this year.

So the plan is to meet at the Tim Hortons on hwy 10 at 152nd street in surrey at 7:00 am.

Aiming to get through the border (truck crossing at the bottom of 172nd st) around 8:00 am.

Then everyone can get gas and regroup at the chevron on H street.

Then the slower ones will leave ahead of the faster ones once everyone is ready to go.

We will stop and regroup again at the rest stop just north of Burlington, after exit 240.

After this, we will continue down to Arlington, Exit 206/ route 531.

Turn Left onto 172nd st, east.

We will then turn right into the Safeway at Smokey point blvd, to regroup again, and pick up some snacks and food for the picnic.

After this we will all leave together for the Arlington airfeild, going north on Smokey point blvd.

Stay straight onto 35th ave, then right on bjorn road, and straight into the airfeild.

Google Directions Here

Picnic starts at 10 am, and we should be getting there around then.

Bring sunscreen, it is usually pretty hot and there is not much shade where we are.

Bring some foldup chairs for hanging out, and if anyone has some pop up shelters, those are always good to provide some shade.

If you have a GMRS radio, bring it, so we can stay in contact throughout the run, and if you have extras, to lend them to those that don't.

I believe we are usually channel 20-0

This is one of our biggest runs of the year, so I hope to see lots of you make it out, it is a great drive and you will meet lots more nice Fiero people down there and check out some more cool Fieros.

Hopefully there will be a temporary bridge there in a few days. In the meantime, a different route to Arlington will have to be found.

Harrison, a most excellent suggestion!  Are you psychic?

Here's a link that shows the choices

Alternative routes for drivers following bridge collapse

"During the Friday morning commute, travel times between Bellingham and Mt. Vernon exceeded 70 minutes.
WSDOT estimates detour routes will be in effect for some time."

Thanks for that,

Is there much traffic through Skagit on a Saturday morning?
Would we be ok taking the last detour, or is the long route on the west
side the best choice?

Well that makes it simple. And it's currently a long weekend down there
too isn't it?

Looks like we will be taking the last, shortest detour then.

I hope you're right, but...

The following is from a news report updated on the 25th (Saturday). It doesn't paint as rosy a picture.

Quote The bridge collapse over the Skagit River in Mount Vernon has completely shut down Interstate 5...

Drivers are facing two, even three-hour delays because of bridge detours.

...

Harrison, what is the "last, shortest detour" you're referring to?

I'm sure the 2-3 hour delay is for rush hour.

The last, shortest detour is as described in Fourpoint9s link.

I'll get a new google map up when I get to a computer, but it's just the
very last exit before the bridge, where the hwy is closed, over to the
next bridge, and back on the hwy at the first on ramp.
