It is time to talk about the Hell's Gate Run. Summer is approaching
quickly so we should all make an effort to prepare our cars for the driving season ahead. The run will happen on May 19th. This run normally heads out via the Freeway and returns using the lougheed hwy. Weather depending of course. I would like a show of hands please. Who's planning on going? Word has it that Harrison is going to lead the pack on this one. Assuming he has a car to drive by then. Dawg |

That's the plan. I should be finally getting the clutch tonight, after it was
sent back or unknown reasons before... I'll let you know when I get it back on the road, but with school finishing up and finals coming that week, I may not get as much time to work on it as I like... |

I'm not feeling the love here....:-)
Is nobody interested in this run? I know the sunshine isn't quite here every day but it's warm. If not this one, I sure hope everyone is getting ready for Arlington and Whistler, our flagship runs as far as I'm concerned. Dawg |

Sorry Damien. I will be out of town at that time. Do we have the date for Arlington? It is not on the calendar of events.

Sorry....I have to work today.
However, if one member can get up there tomorrow (Sunday), May 6, the tram rides are free. Though the crowds might be big. However, it is the one day of the year where you can buy a seasons pass for $20, or a superpass, where you can bring a group of people with you fodr $50 (I think). If I know I have friends or relatives visiting, I usually buy a superpass. They all get in with me as a group for free. So if we want to postpone this trip, maybe somebody can go up there tomorrow and get a season pass. |

OK, this run is a confirmed go. Harrison's car is running and several
mentioned interest in going at the last club meeting. Harrison will lead the run since neither Dave or I can be there. Harrison, are you OK with me posting last year's map and directions? Go have a look at let me know so I can get the ball rolling. Dawg |

Here is the map from last year, although we ended up taking hwy 1 both ways since there was so much rain.
Meet around 8:15 at the Ricky's off 204 and 88 in Langley (monthly meeting location) and leave from there at 8:30 Bring radios and water and snacks or whatever. Will stop for gas in abbotsford where it's cheaper and can meet up with those who are coming out from that direction anyway |

This is all new to me so if someone can pass on last years info I may be able to hook up with everyone at Hells Gate, depending on the time. I plan to be driving through the area on Saturday the 19th about noon or a bit later. I am bringing back my new toy from Alberta, a white 88 GT T-top. It would be good to meet some of the people from the mainland before finishing my trip back to the Island. |

Just an FYI, Lisa and I are in Oregon and won't be back in BC. Granted even if I was in BC, both my Fiero's are off the road right now requring me to get off my but and fix them.

I'll be going. Looks like it's going to be way less rainy than last year's run.
Harrison, are you planning on stopping at Whatcom road again this time? |

Yes, I was planning on stopping there for gas for those that need it and meet you guys from out that way, I just couldn't remember the name of the exit.
If we leave Langley at 8:30, we should probably get there around 9? 88 Addict, if you will be in the area around noon, that is about the time that we will be at hell's gate. I think last year we left there around 1-1:30, and will stop in Hope for gas around 2-2:30 before taking hwy 7 back into town. |

It was a great run, no problems, cars ran fine.
Only 3 Fieros showed up, just like last year, Colby, Glenn and his son, and myself. We ended up taking a wrong turn part way back, so we only did part of Hwy 7 before ending up on Hwy 1 again, which worked out well, since we decided to take a pit stop at Pick a Part. Where we got 2 decklid weatherstrips in perfect condition with all the clips My speedometer wasn't working, so I don't actually know how fast we were going, but I was around 2500 RPM in 5th most of the time. I will get some pictures up soon. |

Sorry that I missed the ones who showed up at hell's gate. When I left for Alberta by West Jet on Thursday morning at 7:30 am I had no way of checking the messsages here after that. So did not know you would be leaving buy 1:30 pm. Or that you would be stopping in hope at 2:30 for fuel. Not that it matters since I didn't get to hell's gate till 3:00 pm. I thought that a cell phone number might have been handy to check on your progress but then I see hear that hell,s gate is kind of a dead zone for reception. I don't know how you all would have judged it but to me the traffic was fairly light. Anyway the new car is safely home now and none the worse for the trip. I drove it more than 1 K miles based on the trip meter. (US car) I really don't like the US speedometer since the metric numbers are small dark and hard to read. I have an old instrument pod from a wrecked Formula that I might swap out the speedometer from if it still works. It kind of bugs me that some of these US cars don't have rear window defrosters in them. Got an interesting book with the car published buy Brooklands Books out of the UK. It is called the Pontiac Fiero Performance Portfolio 1984-1988. First time I have seen this one. It lists many popular magazines as contributors for the book. So will have to update my passport so I can plan for one of these US runs in future. Thanks to Patrick for getting me the correct 4 speed shifter that I needed to have for my LS4 F40 Formula project car. Here is picture of the new Baby. |
