I pushed the spray lever forward (for bug spray) as I have done many times before except this time something gave loose and how it slides around and is not connecting. Also now my windshield wipers have a mind to their own when they're on. They'll stop on their own mid-wipe and then start back up again. No noticeable pattern to it. Upon further inspection I noticed that the wiring sleeve has wore through and I can see a black and a red wire. They do not seem to be damaged in anyway.

Anyone have any experience with this? I haven't looked at my book yet, but are they hard to change? Or does this one sound repairable?

Not a big deal, but still somewhat frustrating.

Edit: I have cruise control and delay if that makes a difference.

Yeah, having the cruise makes changing out the stalk...  ummmm...  interesting.

You pretty much have to pull the wheel to fish the cabling up/down the column (unless someone knows of a better way - I'd like to hear about it!!!).

I don't use the cruise control. It's been disconnected from the engine by the last (2nd) owner. She said that it had a problem of engaging on it's own. So I don't care if that cabling is disconnected. I just want my windshield wipers and spray to work properly.

Well, you could snip it off close to the column, then just replace the stalk with a non-cruise one.

I replaced my turn signal stalk last month to fix the cruise, and it took
around 20 minutes, but I can see how it could vary quite a bit. This is
without taking off the steering wheel. I read it could take from 15 mins to an
hour or two. If you want to keep the ability to have cruise, if not thats fine. I
disconnected the cable from under the dash and tied a .5 mm wire to it.
Pulled the stalk out, then untied the wire from the old one. Tied it two the
new one and fished it through. That part took most of the time, about 15
mins. Pushed back in the stalk and took it for a test drive.

Also, come to think about it, if the wires are damaged in the stalk, is it
possible for that to cause your cruise problem of it turning on and off
randomly?

Mine did the exact same thing. I reached up to push the windshield sprayer and CRACK, the bezel for the sprayer broke on the cruise stock. You can get one from Ebay for 13 bucks, but they charge 15-24 bucks for shipping.

I have been on the hunt for a reasonably priced replacement locally for a couple months now.
