Is it mounted in the car? if so I believe the Getrag's have the shift cables come in from 2 directions and the izuzus have them both come from the same direction, though I'm not near my car to check and confirm that.

I know Capt Fiero has posted pics and commented on this on this site somewhere but i couldnt find the post quickly (big exam tomorow ) so you might want to start by looking for that, otherwise hopefully someone else will pop in here to confirm what I said, or correct it

Ryan pretty much hit the nail on the head, if both cables are in the same bracket, running side by side, its an Isuzu, if one cable comes up from the bottom and one goes over the top, its a Getrag.  All getrags have a Dipstick to check fluid only about 5% of Isuzu's have a dipstick.  So if you have a dipstick, you can be 95% sure you have a Getrag.

Actually I'm pretty sure NOT all Fiero Getrag's have dipsticks.  The one in my 86 didn't(had to pull VSS sensor to check fluid level).  I think it may have been an '87ish+ Getrag thing.  The Getrag I'm using out of an '89 Cavalier has the dipstick.

The other way to tell 5spd Isuzu vs Getrag is to look through the Rear Left/Driver wheel well at the transmission.  Isuzu has a smooth cover plate whereas the Getrag has many bolts on the plate.

Sorry no pics here on work comp.
