    Posted: 28 February 2009 at 6:00pm

just went through the frustration of trying to fill my system with the wrong rad cap in place. It doesnt extend far enough into the filler neck to make the inside seal, causing the fill to leak into the make up tank , and eventualy from there, out on to the friggn driveway.

called the Captain, and he said this is a common problem with Fieros.

the rad cap in the car was wrong, both UAP and Lordco tried to sell me the same wrong cap. I suspect there are many more fieros running around out there with the same problem. I went to steal the one out of my GT and low and behold, it was wrong also.

The only way you would know you have the wrong cap is this problem shows up during a fill, or you boil over in the summer because you are not developing any rad pressure.

does any body have a good part # i can use? The Pontiac dealer in Langley is bringing one in for me from out east- the original pn is discountinued, but he says they still have some in stock in an Ontario ware house. wont get it till late next week though., and it still may not be the right one...

They'll try to sell you a 10231 (Stant #)

You NEED the 10230.

The difference is in the 'dingle valve'.  Hold the cap in your hand so the rubber bit is pointing down.  See how that on the 10231 the 'dv' is loose and flops down?  The 10230, it's snapped closed under spring tension.

This prevents the coolant from dribbling into your puke tank, and then onto the ground.
