Yep its possible and a few guys have done it with success, but when you do, not only do you lose daily drivability, and you make the Fiero's meager fuel economy even worse.

You can go to a local speed shop and pick up the Edlbrock intake and 2 barrel carb.   Some type of mod the S10 and Chevy Citation guys were using as well as doing the carb swap for Race version of the 60 degree V6.      The only thing you WILL gain is and I hate to admit it, peak horsepower.   Moving to the carb and intake system, you are then able to get a lot more power out of the 2.8.    The race versions of the Fiero V6 have been moved to near 300hp.  (granted at that level the motor was rebuilt every 30 mins of racing, or 1 race whichever whichever is longer if the motor lasted that long.

Well...  technically yes.  Why you'd want to move BACKWARDS into the dark ages I don't know, but...

There was a manifold from (Edelbrock?) back in the day.  It might still be available new, or you might try FleaBay.

There was also a 2bbl version stock up until the mid 80's (look on any X-body {Citation, etc}, or 85 and down S10).

edit: LOL - Look at the time stamps.  I think we had parallel thoughts and hit 'save' at the same time!

If it's possible to remove all electronics and go back to basics (carb), less crap to go wrong. I appreciate all comments, and tech tips.

Thanks

I thought the electronics on these cars were pretty basic to begin with...

They are.
They're also far more reliable than carbs ever were!

But, if you insist on going backwards...  might as well find a really early distributor with points & condenser in it too.  Don't want to have to mess with one of those fiddly ignition modules!
