Things I learned today.

1st Don't count on Lordco
2nd, Although wet sanding in the rain sounds like a good
idea, for some reason it doesn't work with 120 grit sand
paper and an air orbital sander.
3rd, my spray paint gun has 3 man controls, air pressure,
paint volume, and spray pattern. If you pull the trigger
1/2 its only air, pull it all the way and you get fluid.
IN this case for testing purposes it was just plain
water.

4th, I learned I am still to eager to play with the V8
and I should really leave well enough alone until I A.
Have someone here to smack me upside the head when I do
something stupid and B. The weather conditions are right
for the given job.

Does that shock you David?  I gave u p on Lordco years ago never trust them since!!

Why are you wet sanding with 120 grit? Wet sanding is for smoothing out a finish prior to polishing or laying down another layer of base or clear!!!!  Please say you arn't sanding your car out in the rain and your fillers (bondo) are getting wet?????

Kinda cool eh???

Stubert, has the lack of sleep caused you to lose your
sense of humor, or the guys/gals at pro body, finally
gotten into your head. The entire post was meant to be
funny. I am well aware that "Wet Sanding" is for
polishing as I have done a cut polish and wet sand on my
88 with I believe IIRC 600 grit.

I was trying to do the rough sanding and final
cutting of all the crap and edges, when it started to
rain and I had to stop, wrap the car in plastic tarps
then wrap a cloth car cover over the tarps to protect
everything.

As for the paint gun, yes I am eager to get proper primer
in it and start shooting the car. (hence why I called you
the other night and left a message) Which come to think
of it you still haven't called me back. :(
Car-2-Lo was over on the weekend and we have decided
to "black out" the car for the first stage, every part of
the car will be black all the mirrors, trim everything.
Only Shinny bit will be the chrome wheels.

Uhm Spray paint on that car, almost none. Honestly the
only parts that were left from my old spray paint happy
days were the lower trim on the door skins. Which were
white. All the other "painting" I have done to this car
has been with primer, which once I decided I liked or
didn't like something got sanded off.

Sense of humor I lost that a long time ago!!!!!  Guess I didn't catch the humor in the post . Going for a black out theme should look pretty sweet on it, will be a change of pace from your past black on white theme but change is good!!!

I forgot to call you back, I noticed that my phone had a missed call but it was to late to return your call. My ringer usually isn't on my phone when im at home for some reason.

When you planning on shooting the car btw? KMS had a good deal on there Satin Black paint kit for $88 or something a while ago might be a good option for paint :) I was looking at it for my wagon.....

Well I got a little more done today, a lot of sanding and primering and more sanding and primering.

It is still going to need the primer sanded and more coats added before final paint, but at least it is now one colour and acceptable for the all Pontiac show, even if it is "under construction"

I am too tired to make a huge write up, there are a lot of places that I need to touch up, but for now, I am happy with the progress for one day.

Thank You Chris, its been a long time coming, if all goes well, I am going to take it down and Air-Care the car on Saturday before the meeting and transfer it to full insurance on Monday.  Then park the Yellow 88 and have my V8 as my daily driver finally.

The Finish is no where near as smooth as Car-2-Lo's however I will get it there with sanding and re-application of the primer until I get it perfect, then I will paint it the black and white scheme that I am dreaming of.

Thank You Hugh.

Now can anyone tell me a good way to mask complex angles.  I decided I am going to push my luck and try to use white primer and do the lower lip of the nose and lower trim.

However for the life of me I can't figure out how I am going to properly mask the lower lip on the nose.    It should be simple lay a piece of paper with tap on the edge into place and then cut the tape at the corner, however tap and paper just won't fold in angle's that I need it to.  I may just say screw it, sand off the little bit of white I have already done and re-shoot it in black again.

Well now that's why good body shops are worth their weight in gold...:)

You're right, it isn't easy.  It's and art form just like good pin striping.  Sometimes a straight line looks like crap and you actually need to go crooked for instance.

I wish I had some magic words to tell ya.

Use the best quality tape you can find and start with narrow tape first.  It bends and stretches well.  If it was me, I would use thin plastic tape first then wider paper tape right after .  Using that combination and some practice, you should be able to go anywhere.  This is for the transition between colors.  You don't need the plastic when masking windows and the like.

Any way you slice it buddy, it's a lot of work for a few minutes of painting.

If the line ends up being sh*tty, you can always cover it up with plastic pin striping.  No one will ever know....:)

I'm so busy with the contract work I'm doing I just can't help right now or I surely would.

You dream it up....I'll make it

Thank You for the offer and I totally understand, work work, has to come before hanging with friends.

I am going to head out tomorrow and grab some masking drape.  Which I think should save my butt in a lot of places.  (its plastic/almost saran wrap,  sheets with tape pre-applied, so it should shape better than paper.

As for the pin stripes, I am going to cheat and just buy a nice pin stripe kit.  I did that with my 85 and it turned out really nice.

Ok so an update, I found that my main 4 ought ground wire had been hitting the street, thankfully the wire is about 4 times bigger than I need so the damage did not effect the use, I strapped it up much better and now it is working great.

I HUGE THANKS to Dr. Fiero for helping me out of a real pinch, I tried using spray bombs to primer my car.  From a distance it did not look too horrid however when viewed close up in person it was obvious that it was a spray paint primer job.   John stepped up and said to bring the car to his place and unknown to me he had all the stuff ready to go and re-shot my entire car in one rather rushed 5hr afternoon.  Most of which was spent sanding off all the stuff that I had sprayed on the car.

Well here are the pics.

New Primer Thanks to Dr. Fiero

So I decided to have a bit of fun today.  The brake stand failed miserably, but I was sure having a ball trying.
