just a quick question, is there anyone that can make a say adapter to hook up certain replacement clusters for the fiero cause i know most of use want to change the spedometer and such but dont have the technicals skills or would it require much more work then a simple plug and play? i havnt taken mine apart to see behind it so i dont really know the hookup there. Ive seen some brilliant ppl here that have wired there own and bet we would all love to know there secrets, lol

It depends on what you want to do. If you simply want to pull the 140kph cluster out adn installed a 180 from a later Fiero it is just plug and play if you want to go exotic like Grand Am or Camaro or Cavalier Digital gauges it just gets longer harder.

Hey there. I'd really like to upgrade my dash as well.
Does someone have a list (In their head or written down) of better components which will easily fit in physically....I can deal with the electronic side no problem.

Well the best "bang for the buck" is using the 80's era Cavalier digital cluster. Fits in the Fiero housing nicely, because its from the similar year all the inputs and sensors work, you just have to change some of wiring around and tweak a few things. The cluster even fits nicely into the Fiero pod. If you want a more modern look the 93 and up Firebird dash can be swapped in. This is very similar in appearance to the 1990 Fiero GT dash. So it makes it a popular swap. Chay you have seen the 90 Fiero dash haven't you? |

I've seen pictures of the car, or should I say pictures of the 3rd gen camaro, but not the cluster in it.
Sounds like a swap is in order. 1 more project!!
Serioulsy though, I bury the speedo with regularity and it's really annoying trying to figure out just how big my speeding ticket will be.

That could be very cool.

LOL, I am in the same boat as you when it comes to speed. I actually downloaded a neat app for Pocket PC Phones, its called Track Pal, has a giant LCD readout that reads your speed via GPS. Great for me as I have a windshield mount for my phone. Even the lowly 2.8 in my 88GT is well capable of burying the speedo past 190kph. (last mark on speedo) My V8 is a totally different story though. I'll try to find you a link to the Firebird dash swap. |

The link is to the 25 page that covers EVERYTHING you need to know right down to wiring schematics and any tweaks needed. The pics I grabbed from a separate thread. If you do a search on PFF for Firebird Dash or just DASH you get hundreds of options and tons of info. http://www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum1/HTML/023174-22.html
The Firebird dash is a bit wide. I moved my door handle and used the Firebird handle because the original position hit the dash. |
