November 14th Tech Session & Club Meet

Hey Guys

sorry i missed the oct meet, wich is pretty bad since its just a 5 minute walk from my house. Things have been pretty busy at work and we have been dealing with some health issues of our own (i'm sure Dave can relate)

Anyway, I thought id better crawl out from under my rock long enough to confirm that i am still "game" to host the tech session next month. I have a large driveway that could fit at least six or 8 fieros, or even more if you dont mind being blocked in, it would be real fun to line them all up there for some foto ops as well.

things I have-

benches

small vice

creeper

floor jack

4 jack stands, wooden blocks

a couple of multimeters for electrical troubleshooting

full tool box with full complement of metric wrenches and sockets, including odd ball stuff for tight spaces, torque wrenches etc

one thing i dont have is air, but i think i can scrounge up an electric impact, and will rig up one of my scuba bottles for blowing stuff

i have a great high end optical coolant strength checker,

full factory service manuals for 86 and 88, plus clymer and chilton

we can set my laptop up in the garage on wireless if any body wants to look up anything on the net.

if it starts in the morning i can fire up the barby for lunch.

all i need is for you guys to let me know what time we should start.,

 and one more thing, im kind of gun shy about a lot of oil changes happening on my driveway, so my sugestion is- use the day to take the oportunity to do something more technical than oil changes-electrical, fuel system, tune up, (?)

 hopefully some of the more experienced guys will be there to offer advice, (thats not me by the way, i have some technical savy but im still a Fiero neophyte) with laptop and diagnostics? if you think your work will create drips of oil, grease, or coolant, it would be nice if you brought some scrap cardboard along to throw under your work.

Hopefully it doesnt rain too hard, but if it does, i have no problem doing a rain date.

just a reminder this is coming up in a couple of weeks.

if any one is coming it would be cool to get some dialogue going on- what you would like to achive with your wheels while you are here, when you might be around, and so on..

even if you dont get much done on your car, its an oportunity to hang out , drink coffee, eat doughnuts, (and/or burgers depending on the timing), and yak about fieros  .... not such a bad way to spend a saturday afternoon....

also, we need some of you experienced guys around, or it wont be much of a "tech" session....

Yep...I plan to pop along. Not much to do!

List:

1. Swap bulbs for winter driving - what's the best bulb colour for rain under street lamps?

2.Grease suspension nipples on front and rear right - did left when tranny was out last week.

3. Use Pam cooking spray grease on door frame rubbers to help prevent freezing (Capt Fiero trick).

4. RainX windows and anti fog on inside of winshield.

5. Re-check all fluids and antifreeze strength.

Can't think of anything else except thinking should I change tires for snows - soon???

Ok Zen. will be ready for ya. i have plenty of jacks, jack stands to get your car up for access to grease nipples, electric impact to get your wheels on and off fast for easy access to nipples. i even have a grease gun with fresh tube of grease if you dont have your own, and a real cool optical hi end refractometer that will tell you your coolant strength to the nearest deg.  (you gotta bring your own Pam though, har har)

So, does anyone have a wheel bearing packing tool they can let us use on the tech day?

On a related subject, I used to buy the red synthetic EP grease, part# 28-0804-4 from Canadian Tire. It appears to now be discontinued. Is there another type/brand of synthetic grease in cartridges that anyone else can recommend that is readily available?

Hi Patrick we are on. for 10:00 am or any time after.

no need for the grease packing tool wing dingy thingy- one thing i do know is how to pack bearings, much simpler, faster, less messy, doing by hand- will show the technique, it's really quite simple.

I bought four extra front wheel bearing seals ('84-'87) in case anyone else would like to repack their front wheel bearings on Saturday. Ten bucks for a pair. Much better than Lordco's price.
