Topic: Outside window seals Posted: 01 August 2007 at 9:57am |
Does anyone know what I can replace my window seals with (the little rubber or plastic things on the outside of the windows that wipe the rain off the side windows when I roll down the windows). Fiero Store doesn't carry replacement seals anymore. Used ones will likely be all cracked like mine. Seems to me I maybe could use something like a modified door sweep to replace the wiper part, but I don't want to take my doors apart until I can be somewhat certain the fix is going to work.

If you do find a supplier for the dew wipes let me know please. The felt wipers on both my cars are scratching my windows.

You were right ... the Fiero Warehouse has them in stock for $70 US a pair (one for each door I assume). I'll order them soon ... one more step in getting my car ready for its collector plates.

My son has all the info, but he's away for the next few weeks. I'll let you know when I find out more (otherwise I'll continue planning WAY in advance!)

Hey David, have any pictures of your car, curious as I am also going for collector plates when the time comes. I had mine installed and there is an easy way of doing them without taking out the windows...Tim & Randy helped me a few years back. The ones I bought were from Dave at the Fiero Warehouse also. Cheers |

Crappy, I have two sets of unscratched tinted windows ready for install. Did you do the inside felts as well or just the outer ones? |

On the stock doors two felt pads are pop riveted to the rubber dew wipes on the outside and two adjustable felts are bolted to the inside of the door. The scratching from the outer rear felt is common with Fieros.

No ... I noticed that too. I didn't order them yet, so I guess I'll have to look elsewhere. I need a passenger side one real bad now since mine has started to disintegrate (where does the water go if it runs past a dew wipe?). My son is using my carport in a vain attempt to restore an old Acadian, so my car has been out in the heavy rain of the past few days!!! We're going to see if one of the local glass shops can fabricate a pair for us. Cheers David

Water gets past it anyhow - the water just drains out the bottom of the door (everyone should check there drains on that note!). The dew wipe is just there to offer fuzzy (not so warm) support for the glass, and to... wipe... the dew! |

Let us know what you end up doing. I'm hoping to restore my side windows and seals but have been stymied by the difficulty of sourcing the wipes. I don't want to put new glass in and have it scratched up by ugly supports and wipes.
Also trying to decide whether to go to manual windows or refurb/replace my window motors. |
