My mothers Fiero failed Aircare so it was up to me to get it fixed. I hadn't thought much about the car as frankly it has only broken down and needed parts twice in the last 10 years. Heck I think the brakes are 5+ years old. I realized it had been 10 years since I changed the plugs/wires/cap/rotor. So a quick tune up, and it was running much better.
It however has a SuperChip in the ECM, no EGR system at all, and 333,000kms on the motor. Which had me worried about it passing. Oh and a nasty exhaust leak from a crack in the firewall manifold. Timing was also a bit over stock at 14' BTDC. (stock is I believe 12'. I filled it up at the gas station with 91oct Husky gas that is 10% ethanol. Drove it for a nice long freeway run at 140kph (in a 4spd car that is screaming for the motor) Took it in and passed. Albeit just barely put it passed. I am taking my 88GT in tomorrow to try and get it to pass. Well here is the Aircare sheet for her car. |

I said I was going to take mine down today and I did. It had failed when I tried last, so I installed an MSD Ignition Box and a new Cat. It passed with pretty good numbers except for the idle HC's which I think is due to a small miss that it has. A new set of plugs would probably fix that, but for the most part she does run pretty good. I may try a set of E3 plugs in it, as they work so well in the Blazer.

Of special note, take a look at what an 86 Fiero is allowed vs an 88 Fiero. 88's are forced to run MUCH cleaner to pass emissions even though they have the exact same emissions equipment and are for the most part the exact same engine.
