Hello,
I have experienced another Fiero problem: 1-2 times every day, I turn on my car (almost always in the morning, or night, usually after a period of non-use) I start my car, it sputters, and dies. I start my car again and it works for the entirety of the trip. Sometimes, it gets to the point where I have to press the gas pedal to help turn my car on. Recently, as I have posted I believe a month and a half ago, my Fiero's distrubtor cap, ignition rotor, spark plugs, igniton wires, air filter and fuel filter have all been replaced. The mechanic suggested that if I ever experience any more problems, it would most probably be the fuel injector since it was wet with almost all of my car components when I brought it in last -- they did dry the fuel injector. My car also has a new battery and a new alternator -- this was done last year. Would a faulty fuel injector be the culprit behind car sputtering off just upon the initial start only? |

That's a weird one!
I had something like this with a GMC Jimmy, it turned out to be air getting into the fuel lines. It would start, run rough, then clear when the air got out of the lines. The way the air got into the system was that the injectors were leaking, dumping fuel into the manifold to be replaced by air into the feed lines (Long individual feeds on the Jimmy which made it way more prevalent compared with the Fiero 'fuel rail', but could still happen if the leakage was excessive). The 2.8 starts in kind of a funny way. It uses a 'cold start injector'. This means the fuel aspect get muddied a bit. With a stock 2.8, there might be enough fuel in the start injector to initially start, but the injectors may not have fuel for a short interval thereafter which causes the engine to die. Then, the air clears through the fuel pressure reg and you're solid the rest of the time. Or, it could be the rpm signal to the ecm is intermittent (which will shut doen the fuel pump), but I'd expect that you would have problems while on the road with that. Chay |

Sorry for the late response, but thanks for the help; thankfully, I have not encountered this problem from that time on.
