This past Sunday I decided to enter the
Edgemont Village Show and Shine put on by the
North Shore Sports Car Club. What can I say but
"What A Show". There were close to 200 entries
there, parked throughout the village, From a
great 1918 Model T to a monster 2006 Bentley
Turbo in near pristine condition (offered for sale
at $32,000 complete with back seat serving
accessories - just the thing for James to drive you
to the West Coast Fieros Meetings!!!) The
setting was wonderful too ... something like the
old Langley show but with much better scenery
since Edgemont Village is situated at the base of
Grouse Mountain.

Joanne and I got a great parking spot, under a
non-dripping tree, with a cool breeze blowing
most of the time. Close by us was a beautiful
Cobra, a Studebaker Pan-America racing car, a
DeLorean, loads of early hot-rods plus many
British sports cars. No Fieros (except ours of
course). We got lots of questions about our Fiero,
mostly from middle aged men who kept telling us
that Pontiac were out of their minds for
discontinuing the Fiero. Without a word of a lie,
we also had at least 4 people who wanted to buy
our Fiero, but we said "No" to all of them before
they could even make us an offer (I didn't want
to get them excited about something they
couldn't have). They were serious though!!!. The
rest of them just seemed to want to talk about
cars, the reliability of the Fiero (and in a few
cases, the un-reliability of Fieros) that they had
owned.

When you added the Beer Garden, several
eating and drinking spots, the quaint stores of the
village, dozens of free prizes, plus zero admission
fees, I'd say that the Edgemont Village Show and
Shine has a great future. The organizers told us
this was just a trial run to iron out some of the
kinks (for example, they didn't have any class
structures and gave out awards for the Best Chick
Magnet, the best Hot-Rod, the best European car
and the Peoples Choice (voted by at least some
of the 1,000+ spectators)). I managed to get
myself over heated and had to leave before the
awards were presented but if they matched the
rest of the event, they must have been great!

I don't know about you, but I'm planning to
go to the Edgemont Village Show and Shine
event in 2011.
