You can buy an alternator rebuild kit for 20 bucks from Lordco. I have done this in the past a few times with good results.

so i bought the kit.. rebuilt it in a brease. put it in and it was reading 18v on the dash.. this was no good.. but thought it might have to wear in the new brushes.. apperently not.. its blew.. oh joy anyways called the company who makes it and they said its a bad part in the alternator that doesnt come in the kit so there sending me a new kit in the mail so i can send it back to lordco and get my money back.. when i called lordco they offered to take the blown one back and credit it to a rebuilt one.... so im gonna buy that one.. i hope it does well and works i have to wait for payday to come first..
