< please bare in mind the posting time, I wrote this at 3am because I couldn't sleep so I figured I would work on club stuff. So if there are grammar errors or things that don't make sense PM me if you are member or tweak it if you are a mod>

Ok the short version of the long story.  In the late 90’s near the start of our club, Larry W.  bought a scan tool for the club to use.    I think in the end he paid for it and donated it to the club,   roughly a year ago, the scanner died.  I shipped to Chay over on the island and he took a look over it.  Seeing as that scanner was fairly cheap used on ebay we looking to spend around $100 USD to buy a new scanner pay the exchange and shipping.   Chay was nice enough to send the club 2 ALDL cables that can be plugged into a laptop and then into your ALDL port on your Fiero.  However it was hit and miss on some laptops mainly due to the fact most laptops don’t come with com ports anymore.  Besides the fact that not many people want to drive around with a huge bulky laptop.  So we had been on the lookout for a good scanner.

At last nights meeting Dr.Fiero aka Watts aka Cracker, aka Mr. SS10 aka John Craker. Had an announcement to make.  Tim also known as Delta Cop Tim, sold his Fiero for roughly $5000 (86GT show car)

Well it turns out Tim had exactly what we were looking for; John said that when that scanner first came out it was around $3000.  The price had dropped a lot.  I did some quick checking online and the last used one sold on Ebay for $183 USD plus shipping and all the related costs.  It also did not include all the “extras” that Tim’s had.  Tim had a price tag on it for a whopping $200 cdn but when he found out the club would like to buy it he dropped the price down to $150 CDN.  We had a nearly unanimous vote at Saturday’s meeting to buy it and keep it as a club tool.   I personally was hesitant about it.  We only had $250 left in the club account, and with Arlington coming up really fast, we will need roughly 200 CDN for Food, Drinks, and condiments.   When I expressed my concern a few people piped up and said how bout everyone that “Wants To Use It”  toss in a one time fee of  $5 There will be a paper book inside the scanner to list who has kicked in that 5 bucks.  It will all go back into club funds. The 5 buck is only a 1 time fee.  Once you chipped in your 5, you'll be free to use anytime you want.  And if you don't want to use it, you don't have to.  To take your car to any mechanic and have them do a scan on it, probably start at $100. So the club figured this will be a good long term investment.  We will need a minimum of 30 people to break even.  The nice thing about this scanner is that it does more than just Fiero’s.  It will do pretty much all domestic cars up to 93.  So the caddy swapped guys, the 3.8 SC cars, it’ll even do, Gasp, Shiver Ford and Chrysler so long as it is OBD1 and not OBD2.

Lisa and took the time today to go and meet with Tim.  So it is here now.

I will put it in its blister case and take it to all the meetings, all the drives and have it on hand for tech sessions.  If you are in serious need,  we can arrange a time for you to bring the car and we can do the scanning here.  However I don’t feel  it is in the club best interest to loan this tool out for long periods of time.  If I keep it locked up either in my garage or in the front compartment of my car, we will always know where it is and know that it is safe.

I am including pics of the scanner and the cartridges including the serial and model numbers.

The following link if it works will take you to an ebay auction that ended just a few days ago for $183 USD

Pics of the new Scanner.  Even my cat thought it was cool.  He decided to hang out with me while I took the pics.

The nice case

The entire keypad and display

Just the keypad

Power cable from your cig lighter

Assorted Adapters for different cars

I believe this is the one the Fiero uses.

GM Chevy/Pontiac/Cadillac cartridge Note the Serial No.

Ford Cartridge

Main Body of scanner showing the Model and Serial number. The reason I am posting all this info, is, in a way each and every dues paying member helped to purchase this.  It’s only fair that you see what you got.   Its unfortunate there was not enough club funds to buy it outright and then let everyone have free use of it.
