So I am not sure if I am nuts or just really into my car. I have the flu and bronchitis which I am taking antibiotics for. I was inside wiring up a pair of 3 way dome tweeters. I got the harness's all put together and ready to be clipped into the stock harness around 10pm. I decided to go out for a smoke and took the tweeters into the garage. Then I thought well I am already out here, might as well go outside to the car and see where I am going to place the tweeters. Well before ya know it, I had my drill out there, popping out the speakers, pliers, flashlight and installing everything. It's 11pm at night, cold enough that there is frost on the car and I am out playing with the stereo. LOL :)
Well the sound is amazing. The extra richness you get from having dedicated tweeters pointing directly at the passenger and driver. Rather than just whatever is in your standard speaker pointing up at the windshield. I am curious how many other people out there are running dedicated Subs' Mids and Tweeters. I consider the 4x10's and 4x6 in the back or seat speakers to be the mid range duties. The tweets I got have crossovers built into the back of the enclosure, and my sub is actually ran through 2 crossovers. (one is the OEM sub amp and a 2nd through my kicker amp) If you like a clean sounding Stereo I don't think there is anyway to do it without dedicated tweeters. The sub is nice, but if I had to choose bass or clarity, I would toss the sub in a heartbeat. I spent nearly 1/2 an hour just sitting there tweaking settings and listening to different tracks on the Hackers soundtrack. So lets hear about what you have for a Stereo, and Maybe what you like to listen to. Edited by Capt Fiero |

You need Bass buddy...I may be bias because I am a bass player, but I also agree on clarity. I have Infinity 3-way in my dash so that makes a difference, but nice to hear you are getting into quality sound also:)

Dedicated speakers! There are very things in this world that I find more satisfying than crisp clear sound.
All I have in my fiero at the moment is 4x6 Clarion 2 Ways and 4x10 3 ways on the way. I was also hoping to construct a console sub setup. Normally I have my regular speakers for mids and tweets and isolate the base for the sub only so that you can have LOADS of sound with no distortion. I listen to mostly everything except country, death rock, and screamo punk. Ps: You're not abnormal for working on your car in the dark. I have a whole lighting system rigged up back home so that I can work into the wee hours of the freezing night. It's so nice and quite at night, perfect opportunity to violate the silence with the new stereo! |
