Three Parter from the Club Email List.

Part 1 8am

So we have a club meeting on the 11th and as of yet, don’t have a confirmed location.    If someone wants to suggest a place other than the ABC at 104th ave and 158th street, please be prepared to organize it and send out the barrage of emails/messages and posts to let everyone know.

We also need to find someone to “chair” the meeting.         I.E. stand up and do the meeting discussion coordinate between the restaurant staff, members coming and in and basically trying to make sure that everyone has the info they need to limit frustrations for people involved.   IE any announcements from the restaurant staff forwarded to the members, making sure that new members are pointed towards old members that can help with questions, letting new members know what sign in stuff is and draw stuff.  Quick introduction to Lisa at the table.      The normal meeting stuff.

Lisa and I are going to go out to Chilliwack and get everything cemented in stone for the Camping trip, however all you really need to know for sure is that it is happening on the 24th to the 26th.  Friday the 24th will be early arrival, Saturday will be the main arrival date.  Hang out play around Saturday and kick back Saturday night until the wee hours.   Wake up Sunday Morning and have a bite to eat at the campsite, then pack up, head over as a group to the River, basically just kick back and have fun, probably going out for a late lunch Sunday afternoon/evening then making the drive back to Vancouver/Surrey Sunday night.                    I will be bringing Lisa and I’s BBQ on the trailer with some assorted stuff, so cooking will be available.    This is also one of the only club events that alcohol is not frowned upon.       So feel free to bring the spirits of your choice.  Just remember to keep it in moderation, I’ll also try to  remember that myself.  (whistles quietly in the corner remembering a camping trip a few years ago)

I’ll be copying this to the club forums shortly.

David

Part 2, 10:30am

Just wanted to get this posted up, while I had it handy.

Earl's by the River Campground
tel: 604-824-9081
Per night: $15
Address: 46171 Chilliwack Lake Road, Chilliwack
(604) 824-9081

Earl's by the River Campground is located on Chilliwack Lake road just 20 minutes from downtown Chilliwack, along the clear clean waters of the Chilliwack River. Snipers Paint ball and fresh produce are available near by.

Lisa and I are heading down there right now to do a physical check on the site to and to take care of anything that has to be signed  I will have my camera with me so I’ll try to get some photos of the group site we will have.

Again if you have missed the dates, its July 24-26th

David

Part 3 7:45pm

OK so Lisa and I made the run out to Earls this afternoon.   It is 76kms from my driveway to Earls.     WE paid a deposit on the space, its $10 per head per night.   We have a group spot in a shady area of the site.   This event is rain or shine, cold or heat wave, sober or drunk, drifting or parking tickets, it will go on.

More dirty details to follow at the July 11th Club Meeting.

As of yet the July 11th meeting location has not been cemented, however it will go on, and if no other mention is made, it’ll be at the same ABC we have been at for the last 3 months.   158th Street and 104th Ave.    Lisa has again tabled the idea of the Port Kells Ricky's.   They have a bigger banquet room, much better parking and said they would love to have us there.

See ya all on the 11th.

David

I sort of still feel like a "newbie" at the club because I've only been a member for a year, so I don't wish to step on anyone's toes. If there's a long time club member who wishes to chair the meeting, that's great. However, if no one else feels comfortable taking on the responsibility, I can do it. I have experience running meetings with a video club I've belonged to for the last 18 years, so I'm not afraid to stand up and address you guys.

Let me say ahead of time that I won't be able to attend (and/or chair) the August club meeting, but the July meeting this Saturday is a go.

Again, let me repeat... If any other club member wishes to chair the meeting this Saturday, please speak up and do so. I'm only offering my services because David has asked for our help, and someone has to volunteer to do it.

Dave, I wondered if this image from Google Maps might be of any help. The indicator on the map is supposed to be the above address. Are you able to identify the campground in this image?

I suspect X marks the spot (although it might be a slightly wider area than actually pictured below).

I had to open up, BING and look it up myself to be sure, but in the 2nd pic you posted, in the right hand lower quadrant, you can see a blue tarp, just down and to the right you can see what looks like a building, that is actually a Train Caboose.  Its at the entry to the grounds.

The first entrance on the road in the pic, upper, left, is the entrance to "Snipers Paintball"  which offers a discount to Campers as well.      The 2nd entrances about a mile down is to the camp ground.

I meant to check this when I was out there, and I know many have expressed brining a cell phone and a laptop to be able to do “work” while they are out there.        My phone did want to kick into HSDPA mode, and 3G seemed questionable.    Is there anyone that lives in Chilliwack that could drive over to the site with a Rogers Smartphone, ideally a HSPDA mode phone to test to see if they can get a data connection.

This is so people like Nigel who need web access for teaching for an hour.   Me well I do a lot on the net.

Which brings me to another question anyone know of a high speed server site that can buffer live video streams.     Which I think would be cool, is that we could setup a Webcam hooked through a PC that is streaming the video live from the site, it would send it to a different site that can then have the bandwidth to handle 10 or 20 people watching it at the same time.
