I finally got a set of *NEW* external dew wipes for my 85 GT. I seem to remember a post about getting them on without having to take apart the whole door. Does anyone remember how this was done?

Don't know if you deem it taking the whole door apart, but...
Pull the door panel, unrivet or unbolt the 'thimbles' that are the down stops on the glass. Then just gently lower the window down lower than it's supposed to go. You now have clear access to the screws that hold the dew wipes on. |

I just did my passenger side one this past Sunday. Dr Fireos advice worked well, but perhaps the profile of the side windows vary a bit from car to car, because after i removed the window from it's carrier and dropped it to the bottom of the door i was still short about 1/2 inch of clearance to get at the middle two screws. So my next step was to remove the pastic rivets holding the outer body panel on and also the two bottom outboard torx fasteners. that gave me enough clearance to actually drop the window down a couple of inches in between the door frame and and the plastic body panel. I put the window back in the frame with 1/4 inch cap screws and Nylon lock nuts (replacing the rivets i drilled out). You have to be fussy about the length of screw you use to maintain clearance.
