Topic: MSD ignition parts? Rich idle issue Posted: 03 February 2012 at 9:31pm |
Hi i can't seem to find any aftermarket ignition parts for my 1986 fiero gt, i would love msd as i've heard good things about them but i can't seem to find anywhere that carries them, tried lordco and mopac. I may have to get them online, would love to get them here as i am impatient i hate waiting for shipping. I'm trying to fix my running rich issue, Idles good but bounces between 950-1000. Drives great engine has 86k I ran it with winaldl and my BLM's are at 120 and occasionally hit 122 I'm new to the program so its hard to translate the data i'll post it up and anybody that can help i'd appreciate it. Can't seem to post as it's not the right file type, but give me your email and i'll email it to you. PS. I got my collector plates and can't wait to go to some meets and see some nice fieros.

I went to MOPAC, surprised they said they didn't have any... Be careful though, the MSD are a vibrant red, which will be an obvious modification to any inspectors who look (For your collector status).

Never shift into reverse without a back-up plan.

You can use the part numbers listed here, http://captfiero.com/ppc/ to help get the parts you need. The business has closed down so you can't go their, but the part numbers are still correct. Lordco should be able to set you up.

Also just a PS note. Factory timing is listed as 10 degrees however with the newer ethanol blended fuels running 12 degree's works much better. Running extra timing helps to reduce a running rich condition. If you run premium you can bump that up to 14 degrees.

Okay, i have no problem running premium. Although i don't know how to adjust the timing. Would i be able to swing by and have you work your magic?

Under normal circumstances I would say sure, but right now I am really tied with personal stuff, that and the fact that my garage looks like a bomb went off in it. Just about any shop can bump the timing up. Ask Fire451 on the forum, he is a Fiero guru and works at a shop in I believe coquitlam and should be able to work his magic. ( I know the shop rates are reasonable and a timing adjustment won't take more than a few mins.)

So i found the parts had to go to 3 different lordcos, Next i think i'll talk to Fire451 and try advancing my timing to 12 degrees, on my winaldl log it shows my o2 sensor making full swings so that means its functioning good. Any other causes of a rich idle that anybody can think of? |

And i was able to get my plates with my msd blue plug wires, which was the only thing i thought i might not pass with, but they don't seem to be as picky as i originally thought. |
