I'd like to put forward to everyone, a change in the time we get together.
Because of where we are, and the time sun sets, and the 'average' weather around here - we end up meeting at or after dark, and just sit around inside. Last time I checked, we're a CAR club - not a DINNER club!! It also makes for a rather late ending time, pretty much eliminating us going for a quick drive afterwards. Also for those with kids, the night drags out quite a bit. Here's a chart I made of the sunset times for 2010 (I picked the 10th of each month): As you can see, the number of points above the line after 7, means we've lost about 1/2 the year! If we cut back to 5, we regain all of about 2 or 3. So - I propose the change to all. Nobody's going to just change things unless there's a popular consensus though. |

We always looked forward to this being a dinner meeting, cuts into the day if we make it earlier...tossed on this as I do agree with you John, but we have to eat sometime:)... Poll it and let's review... |

How about THURSDAY NIGHTS, weekends are always busy with other plans (especially in summer) ?

Now that works:)...how about a DT location?...lol, is that pushing it?:) {ed.note: YES it's pushing it!! Ha ha}. I transit now so during a week night we would have to consider a later start most who work until 5pm would find it tough to make it before 7pm...at least we would.

It is more like a DINNER club anyway, with only 3 Fieros on last meeting ? You'll have more members showing up if on THURSDAYS or FRIDAYS (just a thought)??? Now with members with babies and senior citizens maybe Dr. Fiero has a good point with any earlier meetings. |

One other thought I had (though it would get semi confusing) is to stagger the time(s).
Do 7pm from Apr -Oct (or something) and 5pm the rest of the year. Gives more daylight meets, and more options for more people. You can't please ALL the people ALL time... so that way we'd please some of the people some of the time! (and a few of the people all the time ) |

I've been going to club meetings for the last year and half, and to be honest, I've always enjoyed the tire kicking/shooting the breeze that takes place outside in the parking lot prior to the meeting more so than the dinner itself. That in no way is a knock on the efforts of Dave and Lisa in regards to making the inside part of the meeting fun. I appreciate very much what they do with the raffles and what not to spice up the evening. However, as has been stated previously, we are a car club and I enjoy being outside with the cars and the owners. The meetings don't seem to be nearly as much fun when we simply congregate inside without having spent time outside seeing who's done what to which Fiero. Except for the "Goodbye Nigel" meeting, attendance appears to be flagging at club meetings the last few months. I think John (Dr Fiero) is on to something with suggesting we have the meetings a little earlier (at least in the late fall/winter months). This might give the club meetings, especially this time of year, the little boost they appear to need. In doing so, I also believe we lock ourselves into keeping the meetings on Saturday (so as to avoid scheduling conflicts with work for many members during the week). Keep in mind though, if it's a cold winter day with driving rain, the time of the meeting will make no difference at all in regards to us spending time outside kicking tires and shooting the breeze. It'll still be an inside only meeting, but at least if the weather cooperates we'll have the opportunity of spending some quality time outside in the daylight. So I vote for advancing the time of the meetings (in the late fall/winter if not for the whole year). Seems like a good idea to me!

An earlier start for part of the year might just work. I'm also ok with that.
Changing to a week day would suck, with us anyway. Cheers, DG |

What, no love for Gretchin? I know I was cutting it close time-wise, but with my own estimates that would be four Fieros, an Astro van and a Chevy Blazer. |

i agree leave it on saturday but with a earlier start, i think a
earlier start year round would be benificial as it leaves more time after a meet to do more club runs/events after |

Well, I'm starting to get a vibe for what people want... and as important, don't want.
6PM was tossed around, but it still cuts it so close for most of the year, that all it means is we'd get there in the light -- but then it'd be dark almost right away. Semi pointless. Might as well show up in the dark, and have it stay dark! Weekdays. Out. Would mess up far too many people. Downtown. Cough. Not gonna happen. Right now with a 7pm start time, people STILL have been known to show up at 8 or later. It's not like they/you're not welcome! We sure as hell don't close the doors, and put the sacred seal on it until we're done (insert chanting noises here). Splitting the year... although it seems OK on paper, I'm really thinking would just get too damn confusing. For a lot of you who haven't been around for long - you never got to see how much flack there was over moving the location (this is now the 7th {more?} location in the last 10 years!). I think changing the time twice a year would cause chaos. Though I'm still not against trying it. 5PM on a Saturday is still sounding like the popular hit. I'll give it a couple days, then create a poll to take a more formal tally. There's a bit of chatter on the mailing list about this too BTW. |

I feel bad about this because I'm one of the guys that has trouble finding time to go to meetings. I just have too much personal stuff (family, visiting relatives, work, etc etc) going on that keeps bumping attending meetings down the priority chain. However, our club remains one of the most dynamic car clubs going on right now. Pretty well every other club I see or am associated with (MINI ahem) have gone dead in the water. Maybe it's the economy, maybe it's the law (photo radar in the US, vancouver's no-fun attitude), could be anything. Yet we still have a group of people here who are still passionate about fixing up and driving our Fieros.
Doesn't matter when the meetings are, I will still try my utmost to make as many as I can. Better still, now that I have the plates, I'll even bring my Fiero more often. My only concern is the meetings seem to be moving further and further out into the Fraser Valley. Do most of our members live out that way? My parents and relatives are closer to Vancouver so getting out to our meetings after my family matters has gotten more difficult than before. |

Well my vote after reading as many replies as I could before I said anything, I suggest staying with Saturday, and having a year round time change to 6pm. This will still give about 6 months of meetings that are twilight and move them into a full sunshine feel to them. We can re-address it next fall, when the time changes, and think about moving it to a 5pm then. As John mentioned it will also make it easier to eat supper at a more normal time having a 6pm meeting. |

"...works for everybody" ??? It's safe to say that's not going to happen. Sunset on the day of our next meeting (March 13th) is 6:15 PM, and then Daylight Saving Time kicks in and we're home free until November. I suggest we settle for a 6 PM starting time for our meetings at least until next Fall. Perhaps at that point we can consider 5 PM for our November, December, January and February meetings. Sunrise/sunset info can be found Here.

LOL, ya it does take some serious dedication to keep a club active in the rough times. I am in contact with heads of other Fiero clubs around Canada and the USA and all of them are in the pits right now, some have even stopped having meetings all together. However the fact that we are still here, goes to show, just how dedicated some of us are at keeping this club together. |

******** VOTE HERE *********** So are we decided 6pm as a new start time? Please respond with a Yes your fine with the idea or No I don't like it and I won't be making the meetings. Please take into consideration that with a 6pm start time, people that want to walk around the cars or show off there own cars should start showing up at around 5:30, as the meeting will be starting at 6pm. |
