Yeah, this was the fastest I've ever driven a Fiero. No, I didn't do 195 KPH , but I did do an honest 170 KPH (or higher) on more than one occasion. Car felt quite stable.

Definitely the fastest I've taken mine for any extended period of time, but it just felt so normal down there . Also I managed an average of 25.5 mpg from the border on the way down, back to a station on the island. Not bad, but I was hoping for closer to 28 mpg lol. I just want to thank everyone for making this such an amazing event and basically reminding me of why I love this little car, and the huge Fiero community. See you all next year for sure, perhaps earlier Jordan |

Same here. After being good for a long while I just couldn't hold back any longer. Dave and Tristan flew by us doing god only knows what speed and my natural reflexes took over.
I stuffed the pedal to the floor and matched their speed for a while but traffic got in the way. Out in the clear I'm good but once we get mingling with other motorists I jam out pretty quick. I'm guessing I peaked at about 170+ judging by the tach and general feel of the car. We have a 140 speedo so hard to tell. I'm going to have to work out the speed verses tachometer for our setup. Anyhow, which ever speed we were going, it had lots more to give. Two fingers on the wheel and perfectly steady. A little less than a tank from Burnaby and back. Good times. DG

The slightly longer video, please note that most of the footage was done one handed while trying to drive / shift / watch traffic and still get the camera angle 1/2 way the direction I was trying to shoot. Its 30mb and 9.5mins long video is 320x240 res. If there is a desire I can put up a larger higher res version that is about 80mb at double the resolution. I have not done any fancy transitions or music, just raw video. http://captfiero.com/videos/club_runs/Arlington2010video.wmv |

A pause for reflection. I'm (almost) as guilty as anyone else in the club, but our driving yesterday reminded me of the old saying regarding running with scissors... It's great fun until somebody gets hurt. Believe me, I know what it's like to want to take a car to it's limit. However, I also know how easy it is to go unreasonably beyond that limit when in the midst of a group of equally adrenalized gear heads. I'd hate to see one of our future club events to be a club member's funeral. [EDIT] I don't want anyone to think I'm speaking from a position of being "holier than thou". If my GT had a V8 and a 5-speed in it, I can only imagine the stupid stuff I probably would've been doing yesterday.

Dave, if you could post a higher resolution version (both audio and video) of the part where we're all leaving the rest area on the way down, that would be great. I like hearing the sounds of everyone's different Fiero (including my own ) as they individually take off.

Well....at some point, you have to decide to live and do your best to minimize the risks. No matter what the activity there are risks. Ideally the vehicles and drivers involved have what it takes to do this kind of thing with reasonable safety.
Personally, I would like to see every one of us take a competitive driving course. Even a basic one day affair. On the other side of the coin, I hope no one is ever put in a position that they feel they have to participate in the high speed activities. I chose to hit the pedal at very precise moments for relatively short periods of time. The rest of the time we were just enjoying the view and the good company. Make it fun for you and know you are welcome either way, is what I would say. I guess i just did....:) DG |

Okay...all my digital pictures are up on my Flickr page. I left out the video of the Doctor's expressive speaking manners because I haven't figured out how to rotate a video in iPhoto yet.
There is also one Video of Steve's 4.9 V8. WCF 2010 Arlington Drive One more tidbit of trivia, I found out, including a stop at the Chevron station in Blaine, it is exactly 160kms from my house to the Arlington airport. 160kms is 100 miles, so my total trip was 200 miles. I used exactly 1 tank of gas. Not bad for a totally stock car with a bad cat. |

lol "Hey wait for me!" If memory serves, everytime I went for a quick jaunt I'd slow down after a little bit and let you pass, as you were the one with the detector. |

I was wishing you didn't. Like I said, you were definitely moving, but I could feel your hesitation in the corners (And well placed hesitation it was, it did not look content cornering at 180).
