I'm found these on ebay,the seller also has computer chips for our cars.i'm thinking of getting the pulleys.what do u guy think.my dad has them on his car but his are march pulleys which are well know'n.i'll see if summit racing sell them or jegs and see what there site sas. |

We've had "spirited" discussions here about underdrive or power pulleys previously. My major concern with them is reduced charging capacity in city driving. Read about what several of us had to say about them Here.

this underdrive pulley come with the crank only no alt pulley.my dads camaro has crank,water and alt pulleys and he has no problem with that kit but like i said his is march pulleys and thay are 1 of the best on the market.his car is not daily driver but when he does drive it has no problems with charging or cooling.went to mopac and the pulley is $128 + tax.not bad price.i'll check into it a little more before i decide on it.thanks for th link on the pulleys Patrick.

Undersizing the crank still lowers charging rate and flow rate on the water pump. Do I personally see an issue with reducing the charge rate on the car? No, the alternator should be able to simply pump more amps instead. But if your alternator is at all tired, or you already have a faulty electrical system, I could see that being the straw that broke the camel's back. Same goes for cooling: If you spend alot of time in stop and go traffic, or if you already have cooling issues, I'm going to go ahead and suggest reasonable caution. If you only rip around on the highway, and if your cooling system is flawless, sure, underdrive the crank.

As I posted in that other thread, running the crank only pulley is a non issue. I have had that pulley on my 88GT for the last 3 years, no charging problems, and has anyone in the last 3 years seen my 88GT overheat. If your cooling system and charging system at in good order. Everything will be fine, and for 79 bucks its a good deal. I say grab the double kit and run it during the summer and just the crank pulley in the winter, you won't be disappointed.The large number of problems with the system is because the large number of people that don't take care to keep grounds in good onrder on the cars. Also just as important are t he grounds are the power distribution points. If they get no maintenance the charging system simply can't keep up. If anyone is in doubt my alternator charges at a constant 14.4 volts, just about touching the red on first fire up and stays well above 13v the entire time. You can come and check for yourself. |

Yes, seeing as how my alternator was pumping 18V for quite a while there, I think it's safe to say a proper alternator will still function just fine while being underdriven. However, if there is a problem, underdriving is going to compound it, is my point. |
