Topic: Strange ad for 88 Fiero Posted: 22 May 2009 at 12:30am |

This fella needs to take a night school course for selling a car! He goes on and on about all the things he doesn't like about an '88 , and then at the end when he finally mentions the "specs", he doesn't even mention which engine it has. Kind of a high price as well, especially if it's not a GT (which I suspect it isn't). The ad is Here. And in case the ad gets pulled... 1988 Pontiac Fiero '88 Model - I've had enough - $8500 (Coquitlam) Date: 2009-05-21, 7:56PM PDT Well, I've officially had enough. I thought getting the 88 model year would be the way to go but I was way off. Parts for the 1988 model are nearly impossible to find and I've had enough. I really wish I would have gone for the '87 or earlier model. This all came to a head for me last week when I needed a new brake master cylinder. Well, the parts store could get the '87 or earlier off their shelf but my '88 would take 7-10 days from back east. I've gone through this a couple of years ago when I needed my front brakes done. This has also happened on other occasions over the years. Same delay but I was a lot more patient back then. It ususally goes like this "the '87 part is in stock but the '88 is special order" I'm not trying to dissuade you from the 88 model as the different brakes and suspension are nice but quite honestly the down time to maintain this one year model only is to steep for me. If you have time and patience for an odd ball one year only version of this very popular car, this one might be the one for you. By the way, new master cylinder is in and she is ready for you. Price is firm as Im familiar with the very low production numbers of the 88 and I see what happens on eBay. The colour may not be for everyone but it is unique and screams '80's' if you are in to '80's colours. I got used to it after a while. Specs: 5 speed, sunroof, yellow/gray, 208,229 KM. NOT currently AirCared.

Yep the guy sounds like a real winner to me. He did say yellow, so I am presuming it is an a Yellow 88 GT. I understand his complaints about 88 Parts. I have been dealing with it for the last 4 years. Took me a year to find a good used rack, as they don't exist new. Only option on the planet is to get rebuild-able used one and then get the parts to rebuild it yourself. (or convert to the Corvette rack)
If he really wants to sell it especially for that asking price, there better be pics. |

Haha... I feel a little Mastercard coming on... Listing: Free. Original Price Paid: Several Thousand. Slamming your own item so no one will buy it at your outrageous amount: Priceless. There are some things money can't buy. For this man, it was sales technique. |

Maybe this is the guy that posts all the fake ads, trying to push up perceived market value for GTs? Maybe he's trying to bump up the pre-'88s a new way?
Or maybe he just knows that people that want an '88 Fiero don't have many options, so he might as well give them fair warning? Overall, WEIRD. |

That's what I'm beginning to suspect. I emailed the vendor and asked (out of curiosity) whether the engine was a 4 or a V6 and/or whether the Fiero was a GT. No response...

My guess is it's the same guy that posted an 87GT for sale the same day. Or a person that is trying the up the appeal of his NON-88 GT.
No one would be stupid enough to advertise their vehicle in that way. |

You could be on to something there, because THAT ad is strange as well... 1987 Fiero GT (surrey)just got a new black paint job on it
email me at rico_uppal@hotmail.com That's the whole ad. Why would anyone only post that much info in an ad that doesn't cost anything per word?

I emailed the guy "selling" the '88 Fiero and asked him if he's had any bites on his newly painted black '87 GT yet.

I got a response to my emails. He's still doing his best to convince potential buyers NOT to buy his '88 Fiero...
By the way, he says it's a GT.

Haha... Ask him to see it. If he is a phony, he'll more-than-likely deny you, or try to con off a non-88 as an 88.

Yeah, well that part is odd as well. In his email to me he also stated...
"fair"? What's this "to keep it fair" nonsense? You'd think it would be in his best interest to show the car this weekend if someone actually appears to be interested, especially for the money he's asking. Something is fishy about this whole affair. Maybe someone else here could email him and ask a few questions, without giving anything away in regards to our suspicions.

How about everyone gets assigned a price....
Like, romeo calls and says "Oh my gawd! I want it now! I'll give you 9000". Next person calls with the same line but says 9500, so on and so on. |

I would bet, he would at that rate, FIND an 88GT and offer to sell it. |

Same guy, same car turned up on Craigslist, this time for $7000 less. Yes, seven thousand dollars less! I was interested in looking at it, but again, I had such a weird series of emails with this guy that I finally gave up. He just wouldn't answer a straight question. I wasn't about to fight rush hour traffic all the way down to White Rock from Vancouver late on a Friday afternoon only to discover that the address he gave me was a vacant lot. So, if this car actually exists... did anyone here buy it? 1988 Pontiac Fiero '88 Model with V6 FastBack - $1500 (White Rock/Coquitlam) Date: 2009-06-11, 7:25PM PDT I have for sale an 88 model year Fiero with the factory V6 engine. I've been trying to sell for about a month and I've had to dramatically lower the sale price as the offers I was receiving were nowhere near my asking price. My new price is $1500 and if that's not a good enough deal I will just donate it to the kidney foundation. In the interest of full disclosure please be aware that this being an 88 it has many unique features particular to the 1988 year only.
