I have a Compustar 2 way security system in my mustang and im planning on putting the same or better into all my future vehicle just because of the piece of mind it gives you.

The 2 way means that it'll page you (if your within like 3000ft) if anythings going on with your car

There's a shock sensor to so if someone with a towtruck bumps your car too hard it'll either set it off and page you, or just page you

There is also a passive setting on the alarm that when you go far enough away from the car and haven't set the alarm, it automatically sets it for you, meaning there is a small break in your insurance

OH and BTW it has remote start features as well :)

That might've come in handy for me yesterday.

I'll get a quote from a private insurance company as well for comparison purposes (of both the premiums and the deductibles), but I went to ICBC's site and found the following info on types of "theft" insurance.

Comprehensive coverage

Comprehensive coverage protects your vehicle against a number of losses. As well as paying for repairs or a replacement windshield, it covers you if the vehicle is lost or damaged by any of the following:

  • weather — lightning, windstorm, hail, rising water
  • theft, vandalism and malicious mischief
  • missiles and falling or flying objects, including rock or gravel damage to your windshield
  • the stranding, sinking, burning, derailment, upset or collision of a conveyance transporting the vehicle on land or water
  • fire
  • earthquake
  • civil commotion or riots
  • impact with a domestic or wild animal

    Specified Perils coverage

Specified Perils coverage is similar to Comprehensive coverage but has a specific list of the risks that are covered. Therefore it is not as expensive as Comprehensive coverage. Protect your vehicle against risks from weather, theft, fire and more without affecting your Claim-Rated Scale. Your vehicle is covered if it is lost or damaged by any of the following:

  • weather — lightning, windstorm, hail, rising water
  • theft
  • stranding, sinking, burning, derailment, upset or collision of a conveyance transporting the vehicle on land or water
  • fire, earthquake or explosion
  • civil commotion or riots
  • falling or forced landing of an aircraft or portion of it

(Risks not covered by Specified Perils include: vandalism, malicious mischief, windshield damage or hitting an animal.)

The extra one I have is Roadside Plus, and was I think only 3 bucks more per month, but offers one hell of a piece of mind, plus a lot of savings in waivers of deductibles.

    RoadSidePlus package

RoadSidePlus has eight important coverage options in one convenient, cost-effective package. Get Loss of Use, Vehicle Travel Protection, Rental Vehicle Coverage and more with RoadSidePlus.

You must have Collision coverage with a deductible of $1,000 or less to get RoadSidePlus.

Purchase RoadSidePlus directly from your Autoplan broker.

    What is included

    • Loss of Use Coverage — Get a rental vehicle or reimbursement for replacement transportation when your vehicle is getting repaired or is a write-off in a claim.
    • Vehicle Travel Protection — Travel Protection coverage provides reimbursement for some of the expenses you may incur if involved in a motor vehicle crash or if the vehicle is stolen or vandalized while on a trip away from home.
    • Rental Vehicle Coverage — Feel unsure about the value of rental company insurance? You can be confident you are covered with this affordable package.
    • Family World Wide Transportation — This coverage provides reimbursement for expenses incurred to bring your family members or members of their households to you if you have been involved in a vehicle crash.  For this coverage to apply, you or a member of your household must require immediate and ongoing medical life-support intervention in an intensive care unit of a hospital or registered medical care facility. Also, the vehicle crash must have occurred in Canada or the U.S. Family members must come within seven days of the crash.
    • Lock Re-Keying — Don’t fret over stolen keys. Replace them and change the locks to stay secure.
    • Theft Deductible Waiver — No need to pay the deductible if your vehicle is stolen. You are even covered if it was a failed attempt.
    • Destination Assistance — This coverage provides reimbursement for costs incurred to commence or complete a journey when your RoadSide Plus-insured vehicle is unavailable due to collision, theft or vandalism.
    • Emergency Roadside Expense Repayment — Get covered for expenses if your vehicle is disabled after a breakdown or other emergency.

Ah, that's the catch... collision coverage. I'd have to factor in what the collision coverage would cost as well. I haven't had collision coverage for at least 30 years!

Well even thought I have not had an "at fault" accident in 17 years, I do drive like a maniac and one of these days I am know I am going to slide into something like a tree / ditch / other non movable object.    One of these days my driving habits are going to bite me in the arse and I'll be glad I have it.
