Topic: Mr. Clutch in Burnaby Posted: 09 November 2008 at 4:00pm |
Back in 2005, I posted the following in This thread at PFF. ************************************************************ Okay, we usually hear about places that rip us off, but here's a business that appears to be a good place to take our Fieros (or any car) for clutch and/or transmission work. It's called Mr Clutch and it's located at 6810 Sellers Avenue (Kingsway & Imperial) in Burnaby BC. Phone number is 604-437-3797. Fellow forum member Capt Fiero suggested to me in This thread to check out Mr Clutch in regards to re-surfacing my flywheel. I had been informed by another local forum member that they had been charged $50(Cdn) to have their flywheel re-surfaced elsewhere. Mr Clutch charged me half that amount, $25(Cdn), and they did it while I waited. The other reason that I'm recommending this place is that they are Fiero friendly. I talked with the owner, Marvin Clark, for quite awhile, and he made it quite clear that they've always welcomed Fieros coming through the bay doors. (Most of us know that often this isn't the case.) I asked him what their labour charges were to replace a clutch in a Fiero. It's just under $350(Cdn). Parts are extra of course. I think that's pretty fair when you consider all the work that's involved. I probably wouldn't have taken my Fiero all apart in my driveway if I had known about this place earlier! Mr Clutch has been in business fixing automatic and manual transmissions since 1963. That's pretty amazing in this day and age of fly-by-night operations. Give them a shot, you'll probably be pleased. Tell Marvin you heard about him here! ************************************************************ Okay, back to 2008... Definitely a place to check out if you need clutch work done on your Fiero. I haven't had a need to go back there since, so I hope the info is still relevant. (Keep in mind prices may be a little different now after three years.) If anyone has had more recent contact with Mr Clutch, please mention here if it was positive.

Any chance they have lightened flywheels for Fieros? I'm really trying to find ways to reduce the unsprung weight in the car...

Honestly if you are interested stuff like that, I can point you in the right direction, its not cheap, at around $500 for an aluminum Fiero Flywheel with a steel plate insert for the friction area of a clutch.
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FieroRacingList/summary They are a great bunch of guys, with TONS of good Fiero Racing info. Suspension setups, Engines and above all else PERFORMANCE as #1 option. They are not big on SBC V8's because they put there cars into a different class on the race track. |

David, that's pretty damned cool, I gotta say. I'm always interested in free-ing up unsprung weight from the drive-line (Even though I can't afford that, I find that very cool). Also, as to the thread topic, Mr. Clutch quoted me $527.22 for me to bring in my own clutch, and for them to re-surface the fly-wheel. Then again, that may have something to do with using a performance clutch rather than an OEM one, I don't know. |

Unfortuantly last I heard the prices did go up. However Brian get a quote from them and then get back to me, I might be up for some work. (My fancy computer gig job that was 9-5, just went south and I am not part time on call) |

Update...phone number is out of service, looks like Mr. Clutch is no longer in business which is a shame. I Googled it and I dealt with these guys WAY back when for an old Datsun I had. I have Monday off and since I live in Burnaby, I'll do a drive by and see if maybe they changed their number or re-branded. So...any other shops anyone can suggest? |
