To all mods/admin here, can you give some assistance in deleting spammers please.
Just head to the memberlist page, start from new to old and just start deleting all those that have a webpage and look suspicious. They are very obvious when you go into their profile and look at the details. Deletion is done by checking the check box at the bottom of their profile and hitting the save button. I'll do some today but I'm sure there are hundreds by now because nobody has been paying attention. |

Well, I've deleted about 100 of them so far but have to get back to work for a bit here. Hopefully somebody can pick up the torch a bit and get some more of them. I'll also be making an update to the registration page to assist in stopping these spammers from sending a bot to do their dirty work.

Alright I'll see if I can do the same tonight. Maybe if we have the ability make it an Admin authorization for new members, we don't have that many new members on a daily basis wanting to sign up that are legit, so I would not mind approving or denying a few a day.

Well I just knocked off 160 crap members. Spam or Not, if they were un-activated accounts with zero posts, they were batch deleted. For the most part the spammer accounts were never fully activated hence why we did not see a lot of posts from spammers. (only a few smart ones made it through)

It didn't occur to me that it's just possible to delete all unconfirmed users.. that worked well!
I've changed the register page to ask for an answer to a math equation (simple). That should cut down on the bots. It's a very popular and successful way of getting rid of 99% of spammers. |

I've gone through the remainder and deleted a few more but all the rest seem legit. We'll have to keep a sharper eye on things just in case. If all goes well for a week or so then I would guess we can breath easier for a bit on this particular issue. Thanks Dave.

I noticed there are a lot of people who joined in 2008 but have not logged in since. Should we consider a membership clean-up? Not saying we should, just considering some routine maintenance.
