Okay, the October meeting is... today. I don't know at this point what the situation is with Dave and his health. Between his buggered up knee and him being sicker than a dog with the flu, I don't know whether David's even planning to attend. I'm sure he'll give us a report in this thread. The floor is still open for someone to chair the meeting. Please let Dave know if you'd like to try it. If I can do it, YOU can do it. As I stated prior to last month's meeting, I'm more than happy to chair the meeting myself, but I'm also content to sit back and watch someone else tackle the assignment.

Again Patrick Thank You, (I am going to have to set a Macro for that, seems like I am Thanking you a lot recently) As Patrick mentioned, I went from a bad knee injury to a worse knee injury, then got a nasty flu bug, followed up with a strep infection in my throat. Which took me out of the land of the living for nearly a month? Also trying to prepare to be a Dad for the first time in just a few weeks. (Less than a month left) It has taken a great deal of my time, leaving club stuff on the back burner. Now back to FIERO'S. October, WOW can you believe it, we are into fall already, this year has just flown by. Let’s see, at the meeting, we need to cement in the arrival time for the Tech Session at Glens place. There has been a lot of confusion on who's doing what and when with who and where, and when. Confused yet? Ok Damien mentioned here, http://www.westcoastfieros.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=153 1&PN=1 that he would like to set up a welding day at my place. So we need to cement that in as well. I am going to be a mad dash to get my V8 on the ground before the baby does, so this will be an excellent time to have a few guys over to get some work done to parts and me to have moral support on both my upcoming projects. (car and dad) We need to get set for the food drive and toy drive. Who do we want to give our food, toys, and cash to this year? If you guys didn't know the other side of the 50/50 from each month goes into a separate account for a group cash donation to the food bank through one of the radio stations. Nigel has bought up the idea of giving it to a registered family. (don't really know the details, however it was mentioned last year and not proceeded on, possible bring that idea up again) Now back to the cars, winter prep, lube, oil change, bleed brakes and or clutches, flush and fill cooling systems. I suggest dropping at least one grade of oil. IE if you are 20w50, drop to 15w40 or 10w30. If you are already at 5w30 full synthetic then I would stay there and not go lower. If I can't make it and someone does not already have one, I can provide a coolant tester for the day. I would also like it if someone like Dr. Fiero can provide proper cooling system voltage check procedures as well. Alignment -- If you can't remember the last time it was done, now is the time to do it, especially if your car pulls at all. A questionable alignment might be fine and dandy on dry roads, but get it onto icy roads and your car becomes a giant sled. Making it a danger to everyone. I've personally had cars that I was comfortable taking to the track and zipping along at 180kph, however on a rainy day, I was pulling back on the throttle at 80kph. Simple winter prep can not only save you thousands of dollars over the course of the next year it can save your life. It’s a pretty no brainer to me, an afternoon hanging out with friends while you work on your car, vs ........ Even if you can't make the tech day, do yourself a favour and either spend the day with your car prepping or letting a shop prep it. (Just don't fool for the big dollar packages say they do X number of checks and charge you big bucks for it, when you can really do it all yourself and learn about it) There are plenty of ethical shops out there, if you need a recommendation, talk to Dr.Fiero, Blair, Brain or Austin, they all have their ear in the auto industry. Ok Whew, I think we can save the rest for the meeting. Please bring your colanders, day timers, palm pilots, I-Phones, Android Phones, Windows Mobil Devices, Laptops and even a paper and pencil if you are old school. Let’s make this winter a safe and productive one. Say anyone know if there is Ice Racing locally? :)

Just to clarify the date of the "official" club winter prep day - The tech session is scheduled for earlier in the day, November 14th (time to be posted when known), the same day as our November club meeting which of course takes place in the evening. The tech session, as mentioned by Dave, takes place in Glenn's yard in Walnut Grove (Langley). Dave, do you think you'll be healthy enough to attend the club meeting this Saturday? |

I think I'm fighting the flu. All day yesterday I was feeling shaky and sore all over. Today is much the same. Ugh...

All I can say is, it wasn't me, I haven't seen you? Take care and get well man. If you even suspect it to be the nasty flu strain, go in to your doc get on good drugs before it has a chance to really take hold, don't take the wait and see road, by then, it could be much worse. Fortunately my personal doc is not a "wait and see" guy. If you have visible symptoms, he takes immediate action. All I can say is take care, relax, watch TV and stay away from people for at least the first few days. You got 3 whole days to rest up before the club meeting.
P.S. If you have what I had, the worst part about it is trying to read the computer screen and the text starts to float in 3d, then the room starts to spin........ thats when you say F-It and put on a downloaded Movie to watch. |

Well, after laying low since Tuesday morning with the flu (thank goodness apparently not the same strain as David had), I finally felt strong enough to go for a short walk late this afternoon. Just prior to that, Clynt phoned me needing a hand, and I felt bad that I couldn't go over and help him out. However, he didn't know I've been sick at home all week. I don't usually post my health on the club forum, but seeing as how I'm expected to be chairing the club meeting in about twenty hours I thought I'd better report something! So I'm hoping if I feel well enough to head out to the meeting tomorrow that I'll actually be able to speak without going hoarse. My throat has felt mostly okay all week, but I haven't been doing a whole lot of talking either. It therefore might be prudent to have someone in the bullpen who can take over if I can't make it, or if I can make it but can't address a roomful of people. Yes, the last I heard, David expects to be there, but it really isn't fair to expect Dave to chair the meeting if I can't do it. He's been very sick, and with his buggered up knee the poor guy can't even stand for any length of time without a cane. Anyway, I'll post again tomorrow afternoon to report whether I'll be able to attend the meeting or not.

I don't think I can chair the meeting tonight. I've got no voice! I actually feel not too bad today, but I talked on the phone for awhile and completely lost my voice. I really hope someone can step up to the plate tonight and take over this meeting...

I think I am running about 70% of norm. So I shouldn't have too much issue doing the speaking. Who wants to start bringing up topics that need to be addressed. Lets pretend we are sitting at the meeting, I just asked the group, Anyone got any tech questions they want brought up Parts requests Parts for sale Events they want talked about...... I know we should have at least one new member. Alan, in an 86SE V6 4spd. I guess we can't do a virtual stand up, but we can get him to do that at the meeting. Patrick, you want to do this over email for notes, or think we should just start bouncing ideas back and fourth in this thread. |

Sorry, I was away for a bit. I was watching these rednecks in a Ford SHO powered Fiero right Here. We can bring up a few points of interest for the meeting in this thread, Dave. Okay, to start... I'd like to hear from Damien tonight if he's got anything to discuss in regards to welding and porting factory 2.8 exhaust manifolds. I supplied him with some links which I hope gave him a good idea of what is required.

Well, since you brought it up... I need the stamped metal dustcover that mounts on the bellhousing by the starter which hides the bottom half of the backside of the flywheel. I don't know how different they might be, but this is for the 4-speed in an '84 Fiero. It's missing on this car and since I'll be dropping the cradle to fix a tranny problem (when I get healthy again), I'd like to replace it at that time.

Dave, where'd you go? This is kind of a one-sided discussion so far. Okay, I'm going for a walk. I need to get some fresh air into my lungs!

I think they are unique to the 4 banger or I would have a spare. Might want to post to the email list for anyone that has parted out a 4 banger.

Sorry had to run out for a min, needed to grab the parts for Damian and Allen. I have got 6 exhaust manifolds. (3 sets) 1 V6 head, and 2 door skins, 2 gt rocker panels and 1 quarter window for an 86SE all shoved in my Fiero.

Is Damien ready to try the welding and porting now? I've got a set of factory exhaust manifolds in the basement as well as a crossover/Y-pipe. Perhaps I should throw them in the back of the GT and bring 'em along. My "therapeutic" walk today was rather interesting. I noticed I was sort of staggering a bit from side to side (like I was drunk, which I'm definitely not). I hope I can drive to and from the meeting better than I can walk!

That was the message I got from Damien this afternoon.
From personal experience 99% yes. Only once in the last 2 weeks did I get so "woo woo" headed that it felt like the car was sinking and I was floating and everything became wonky at the wheel. However trying to walk, I still seem to have the balance of a toddler. Now back to meeting stuff, I am going to bring all the stuff with me, just in case he is able to change his mind and come out. Crap!!!! Its 4:30 already, I got to get back out there and finish off stuff, I'll try to quickly reply when we are on our way out the door. If not, I'll see ya all at the meeting. |

Since I dug up my exhaust stuff, I might as well bring it along too. Okay, as long as the horizon doesn't start to tilt, I'll be at the meeting.
