Any interest by club members of a group purchase of GT sail panels?

I've been in touch with Kenneth at http://www.kahines.com - www.kahines.com about buying GT sail panels, and among other things I asked him about the possibility of a group purchase of GT sail panels for the club. The biggest saving would be on shipping. I could have them shipped in bulk to a friend's place just across the border in Blaine and then have him bring them across.

Kenneth's best price, if we buy 10-15 sets would be $100(US), shipping included, for tinted (or clear) sail panels. (More than 15 sets would be a little less.) That's for both sides. Have a look at his panels http://www.kahines.com/pages/products/tintedgtwindows/tintedgtwindows.htm - Here and his regular prices http://www.kahines.com/pages/products/payandshipinfo/payandshipinfo.htm - Here . Make sure you factor in the shipping costs to Canada if you wish to compare what it would cost to buy a set individually as opposed to a group purchase with other club members.

Here's a chance to replace those embarrassing ugly old cracked broken panels on your GT for a decent price. No, these panels do not look as good as the original factory units, but they look pretty damn fine for a fraction of the price.

We can discuss this at the club meeting on Saturday. I'm not going to "push" the idea. If enough club members are interested, great. If not, no problem.

Could you please elaborate a bit on that, and I'll either ask Kenneth about it or have him read over this thread. Thanks.

And for anyone who wishes to see the GT sail panels that the Fiero Warehouse sells for $220(US), click http://www.ovis.net/~dmkfiero/fastbackgtwindows.html - Here .

Alright, I'll ask Kenneth at  http://www.kahines.com/ - Kahines  about this. Maybe I can get him to respond in this thread, or at least email me a statement that I can post here. Thanks.

This is an image of the front of a GT sail panel from the http://www.kahines.com/pages/products/tintedgtwindows/tintedgtwindows.htm - Kahines website...

I dunno, looks curved to me, at least towards the front. I'm hoping Kenneth will have something to say on this.

Get a closeup look at the clear edges of the triangle.
Unless it's become much improved, it's just a solid cut edge (not the gradual matrix of the OEM).

And when installed, you really notice that the middle is flat, not bubbled out.

As I stated in my first post, these panels do not look as good as the original factory units.

However, for $100(US) or so, I think they'd look a heck of a lot better than what I have on my GT currently.

More comments are welcome.

Agreed, for that price, well worth it...Austin's don't look bad at all, just depends on how picky one wants to be:)

Are these the ones Austin has?

For those of us who don't have "show" cars, I figure these panels are fine.

Like I stated earlier, I'm not trying to "push" the idea of a group purchase. So I welcome any feedback, good or bad, on these and other available GT sail panels.

Nope, I have the Fiero Warehouse ones and they are pretty decent.  To me, it was worth the extra for the dot matrix border & curvature.

Austin, if you don't mind me asking, what did the shipping (and any other tacked on taxes, duty, and brokerage fees) cost for your sail panels to be shipped from the States to Canada?

At tonight's club meeting I found out from longtime club members that a "group purchase" of anything through the club has never worked out. I suppose I'm not surprised. I know from other clubs and organizations I've associated with that organizing anything with any number of people more than one is a nightmare.

My apologies to anyone/everyone who wished to participate in a group purchase of GT sail panels. It just wasn't meant to be.

So therefore, this thread will now become a place to just discuss replacement GT sail panels if anyone wishes to do so. Thanks.

Sorry Patrick don't remember how much it ended up being all said and done, it was more than a few years ago.   Pretty sure it was shipped USPS so the brokerage fees were minimal + regular taxes.

I'd recommend shipping to Blaine or Point Roberts though in any case.  Seemed to be a bit of a PITA for some to ship to us Canadians for some reason.

Oh that's okay, Austin. I didn't realize it was a few years ago that you had gotten the sail panels.

Yes, if shipping across the border from the States is unavoidable, USPS is the way to have it shipped for sure. The private carriers such as UPS and FedEx really rip people off with their BS "brokerage" fees.

So who was it that bought the set of OEM GT sail panels from Craigslist for $200+ apiece?

http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/pts/1085817715.html - http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/pts/1085817715.html

Come on, don't be shy.

Not your average cheap Fiero owner

Yeah, it sure as heck wasn't me!

He originally listed the two GT sail panels in Craigslist for $100 apiece and was open to offers on the pair. I offered him $150 for the two of them. Hey, I tried!
