hey guys, i know you mentioned b4 things i have to change but i would like to have a list going, so this is where i will look and write down what i need to do, anyone have any suggestions, or step by step instructions, please share your thoughts.

i know i need to put the oil pressure sending unit from the 86 to the 88 and as well as fuel rail wire harness.

any other wire harnesses that need to be changed, im not sure what the engine will come with, also looking for a opinion on splicing wires and connecting them together with the connectors from my 86-88 engine so they fit, i mentioned soldering the wires together but my friend says using crimp connectors would be ok.

if anyone knows of what wire connectors will and wont work let me know, as well as other sensors or any other parts

thanks guys,
garry

Swap the sensors, and it's plug'n'play. All connectors are the same.
You don't have to swap the fuel rail wiring.

Move the mounts from the 86 to the 88 engine.

You MIGHT need to do something with the power brake booster pipe.  It changed diameter at some point.

Use the '86 alt & bracket unless you can find an adapter harness to use the much better CS alt from the '88 (it's just a simple connector change - you can even hand wire it over).

Hey Dr. You do remember that the 88 Injector harness uses a different plug than the 86. So unless he gets the entire engine harness from the 88 donor car, which would negate having to change anything, he is going to have to change the injector harness which means pulling the plenum off.   Pre 88 used a flat syle weatherpack, however in 88 they moved to a stacked connector with 2 rows of pins rather than a single row.

I just assumed the engine was coming out of another car with harness.

And yes, I had forgotten about the connector.  Been quite a few years.  :)

Gary, just to clarify what the good Dr. and I are bantering about.

If you get the entire engine harness with alternator from Marcel, you won't have to change anything except the engine mount. (Single front mount on the front, (pulley side of the engine)

If you do not get the harness or alternator, you will have to pull the harness from your engine, as well as the alternator bracket, the injector harness, (under plenum) and oil pressure sending.   Then remove the alternator and bracket from your engine and swap it onto the new engine.   Then remove the intake on the new engine, un clip the harness from all the injectors and put your 86 harness onto the injectors.

A stumble you MIGHT run into, if both engines are A/C or both are non A/C you will be fine, however if one is A/C and one is not A/C equipped, you will either have to move the oil pressure sending unit to match your harness or extend the wires.   A/C Cars had the sending unit up high on a long tube near the battery, Non A/C cars had the sending unit threaded into the engine block just above the oil filter.

I can't think of anything else off the top of my head. I think this covers at least 90% of the questions you are going to need asked.

Oh one last thing.   If it comes with the 88 exhaust Y-Pipe, you will need to remove it, then install your 86 Y-Pipe. As they are different. Please do not discard the 88 Y-Pipe. If you are going to toss it, call me and you can toss it in the trunk of my car.
