Well, after working on mine for what feels like months (ok, maybe it was 10 hours), and getting the OTC cruise tester tool.... IT WORKS! Along with all that work, I now have a rather good idea of just how the whole system works. So, if you have an installed but non working system... there is now hope! :) |

Funny you should bring that up. Dave and I were having a chat during the clutch job, where I mentioned I have cruise installed, but it doesn't do anything. Might have to look into that, Doc. ------------- Never shift into reverse without a back-up plan. |

Well, if there's enough people, maybe we'll have a cruise control 'tech day' at some point. I know Dave said he wants to figure his out. Oh, if anyone's at the wreckers (preferably pick-a-part since it's so cheap!), start grabbing cruise servo's, and vent solenoids (the two things on the one bracket at the back corner of the engine compartment). Both of those were toast on mine, so I'm betting I'm not the only one. I have a spare cruise brain, and most of the switches are repairable. |

John if we can get the one in my 88 working, I'll gladly donate the rest of my cruise parts box, got a box of the servos (3-4 complete packages) cruise cables, I think most of the vacuum cans I had have been tossed out, but if I have any spares, I can donate those as well. Totally more durable - and it can then be relocated in behind the L/H wheel well out of the way. It just has to be one of the ones with two lines, unlike the S10 (for example) that only has one. |

John, at a tech session, would you also be able to discuss what's involved with replacing the cruise control switch in the steering column when it wears out?

I can just tell you here. P I T A ! !  Yeah, could discuss, or if someone REALLY feels like it maybe we could swap one depending on time, etc. Pretty easy to test if it's bunked or not (sometimes the wires are just broken where they bend - then it's just a given). |

Pieces of the switch wires are sticking out of my steering column at the turn signal stalk. Probably not good, eh? |

I hope you are all joking. To replace the cruise switch (its in the turn signal stock) Takes roughly 20-30 seconds.
