So I had to Aircare my 88 and it failed. Was due to a dead cylinder and no emissions equipment. Lisa had to Air-Care her 85 and it failed. But thats not the important thing.
Note the max allowable for the 2 cars. The 85 can be twice as dirty as the 88 in most aspects. The 88 motor is pretty much the exact same as any other Fiero engine when he comes to emissions. However the 88 is required to have a visual catalytic converter to pass. So if you have an 88 car, looks like we are not going to be able to skate by as easy as the early cars. As for Lisa's car, I am pretty sure that the reason it failed is a bad tune on the chip we are using in it. When we put the motor together we had John do a quickie modded chip for us. (no real tune, just enough to get it running) We always meant to go back and get it tweaked however have not gotten around to it. The car has no Cat no EGR, 19# injectors, 1.6 roller tip rockers, ported manifolds, decked heads and a few other mods up top. However the bottom end, rings and pistons have been around since the dead sea was just sick. So I know it is leaking a bit of compression back into the crankcase and then sucked back into the intake to be re burnt as oil/fuel vapor.

Whoa!!!! Never even noticed that before... Check out the Idle CO -- that's 515% difference in allowable levels?!?!! |

I'm glad that my car is an 85GT looking at the limits at air-care. I just re insured my car 10 days before my air-care expired. |

Well wish us luck, we just swapped out her exhaust for one with a cat, and changed her underdrive pullies back to stock and brough her fuel pressure up from 30lbs to 36lbs to help with the NOX issue.
