Because the Fiero doesn't use ABS (Sadly), does that mean we're ok using DOT 5 brake fluid in it? DOT 5 is considered the "best" of the four kinds of brake fluid, provided you arn't running ABS, in which case it can't be used. It's also nice for the fact you don't have to replace it every year or two, as it's considered a "sealed" system.

I've used DOT5.1 in a clutch system before - BUT, that was with a brand new master and slave, and I washed the line out like crazy.

You don't want to mix DOT3 sludge with new DOT5.1

So, that means the lines, the calipers, the prop' valve....  big undertaking.

It is great stuff though.  Good boiling point, non hygroscopic, and (I think) it doesn't melt paint nor decay rubber.

But the best part....  it's purple, and looks cool.

LOL. Yes, clearly the best part. Yeah, everything I've read about DOT 5 (By the way Doc, 5.1 IS compatable with DOT 3 and 4, it's DOT 5 that's the silicon-based one, and doesn't work as a result) has all been good, as like you said, it doesn't eat paint if you spill, doesn't absorb water and lose it's heat resistance and it has the highest boiling point, bar none. And is it truly that difficult to flush the system? We did an '06 Focus at BCIT, and that wasn't too bad to do... Is the Fiero just skanky that way?

Saaaad faaaace. Oh well. I'll shelve the project for now, although it would be nice to do a complete overhaul of the entire system sometime. Then, I'll put in DOT V.
