Well guys, finally figured how air was getting in the system...

Was gravity-bleeding the car today as per the instructions, problem being, when I went to tighten the bolt back in, it seemed like there was literally NO resistance. "I didn't back it that far off..." I thought. "And even when stripping the bolt, there's still some resistance..." I also rationalized. So, I went to pull my wrench off and the bolt came with it... As did a sizable chuck of the slave cylinder. Like, the size of my thumb big.

So, I don't suppose anyone has a slave cylinder they want to off-load quickly, do they?

Tristan, check with John (Dr Fiero). I know that Marcel very recently bought a slave from him. (That doesn't sound quite right.)

His name....  was http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kunta_Kinte - Kunta Kinte ...  he was a good man...  (ok, NVM, this is going downhill fast)

I have several left.
Choices:
  Stock boxed (new): $50
  Cleaned, painted: $60
Cleaned, painted, double seal piston'd: $85

Wouldn't mind snagging the double-sealed one off you... Any chance you'll be home today around 7-ish?

Might be home for 7 - but I can't do the dual seal it seems, as the parts are going to be back ordered for 4-6 WEEKS.  Argh!  (if you only want it cleaned and painted, I can do that).

Tristan, I've got a Beck/Arnley #071-5912 double seal kit (piston, seals) brand new here that I haven't used if you want to add it one of John's single seal slave cylinders.

Just to be clear, this is the MR2 kit that is used in the Isuzu slave to give it a double-sealed piston.

I think it cost around $18.

That'd be a plan - I've got 1/2 dozen kits on order now, but it's in fed-ex's hands as to how long it'll be.

Sure less than the 4-6 weeks I was given before, but probably 1-2 weeks anyhow.

I suppose I'll take a single seal in that case. Do you have any of those ready?

I can prep one for ya if you want the $60 variant.

Just gotta LMK in the next 10 min's, or you'll have to wait until like 9pm.

{edit: did one up anyhow.  If you don't want it, the next person will....}

I know it's probably an extra hassle to come into east Van to pick up the kit, but it would only take you two minutes to put it in.

Anyway, my offer still stands if you want it.

(I'm meeting with a couple people at the McDonald's on Grandview Hwy and Renfrew from 7:30-9:00 pm tonight if you wanted to come by for the kit.)

Well, why don't I pick one up off you when I have some more free time, sorry Patty.

No need to apologize.

I was just making the offer at this time so you wouldn't have to mess with the slave cylinder again later.

You make it sound like I've got a dozen of these for sale!  I just happen to have ONE here as a spare for emergencies. It goes back into the locker now for safekeeping.

Out?  Biggest thing is to remove the line before unbolting it.  It's a 14mm if memory serves.

If you feel it even STARTING to slip - STOP!  The nut will round off very easily.  This is the point you run off to KMS or wherever, and invest in these:

http://www.irwin.com/tools/locking-tools/the-original-locking-wrenches - http://www.irwin.com/tools/locking-tools/the-original-lockin g-wrenches

Look at the shape of the jaw.  Not your average vice grips.  These things have saved my ass so many times I can't count.  Just make sure the flats of the nut are down in the "V" of the pliers.

I've got the one that attatches the bracket to the back of the engine off, but it all still seems to be locked on. As for the two that attatch the slave to the bracket, there's no way in hell I can reach them.

Oh, and I'll show you what I meant regarding the bolt.

They're kind of blurry, but you can still see the large chunk of slave cylinder that sheared of with it.

YMMV, but although it's awkward, you can usually get the slave off
the bracket when it's in the car. The engine works as a great anchor.

How? The bolts are on the far side, inside the bracket. No wrench I have or any socket will fit it.

Damn, I can't get it brothers. If anyone is feeling particularly generous, I have about $10 here for a little bit of help if they're inclined to come over.

Yeah, attempting to gravity bleed now. Failing miserably.

If you can get it 'close enough' (like - to drive without killing yourself) head over here and we can power bleed it.

Shucks, didn't read that in time.

Well, the clutch is... Back to where it was to begin with, not the awesome brick it was when David did it for me. For whatever reason, it's only brick-esque. Will have to stop in tech day and see what's up.

These young guys just don't know how to handle their slaves.

Talk about 'wow'.

I ordered up the slave kits yesterday, around 9am.  Figured it'd take a week or so to get here.

8am today, the FedEx guy pulls up and hands them to me!!
