If there's snow, I'll join up in the Sierra. Or if I'm feeling energetic and cheeky, the Dodge Custom 200.

D_sensitized's real name is Harrison and his build thread is http://www.westcoastfieros.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=1211&PN=1 - Here .

Tristan and I bumped into Harrison and a buddy of his at Pick-a-Part last December.

Harrison was also at the last club meeting.

Any clearer to you now who he is?

Of course Harrison is now going to ask who the heck Bassman is?

I know who most of the people on here are I think.
I was at the last autocross with the corvette club just watching too. I have met Brian(Bassman)

Where is a good place to get a helmet?

Kevin?...UBC has loaner helmets, so no need to buy one if this is your first time, PCA & the Corvette clubs are not as set up as these guys.

If you want to buy one, in the Corvette thread are lots of details, or to buy new go to Drivers Edge on Boundry.

I bought three new SA2005 Pyrotect/G-Force open face helmets on eBay very recently for about $110(Cdn) apiece (including shipping). Haven't got them yet.

I might end up with an extra helmet for someone who takes X-large. If anyone is interested, let me know, but I don't know quite yet if it's already spoken for or not.

I dunno, first link was full of pics, some of which were perfectly dry save for a puddle or two. I can't have the Sierra having too much traction, or I'll be screwed.

I'm definitely going to go, I'm just trying to decide on a vehicle. I think the Sierra is too long and bulky for anything other than snow, and I don't wanna take my Dodge. Might end up trying to find one more Fiero GT rim and throw some Pick-A-Part rubber on there, and just run the Fiero.

Registration is through a online system, not like PCA or Corvette, what was the membership fee Harrison?...and the first race is usually part, or they have a $5 per event fee on top of the registration.

I'm not quite sure why you put in that way... "and just run the Fiero".

Why would you seriously even consider driving one of those other vehicles at the autocross instead?

Could you not imagine the sheer entertainment value of trying to autocross a supercab, longbox pickup? Turning radius of like... 75 feet. The Fiero is actually useful at autocross. Far less fun.

I know the actual reason. Driving something other than your GT at the autocross would take all the pressure off you of desperately trying to prevent being beaten by an old man driving a duke.

Right, because that totally happened... Never. I beat you, you need to come to terms with it.

And I'll beat you in my pickup as well.

No, in all seriousness though, you can't deny, either my '71 Dodge Pickup or the '91 Ridiculously-long-Sierra would be hilarious to watch in the snow.

I've done it.
2009 Sierra 2500HD crew cab w/6.5' bed.  It was a tight course too.
They don't normally allow vehicles like this but it was the end of the day and I asked the guy running it if I could give it a shot.

Man, Colby, Pat and Tristan are becoming autox Monsters...glad I won't be alone holding all these memberships...what will happen guys, every weekend pretty much you will be out at Pitt Meadows:)

Someone asked in the topic on the UBCSCC forum whether the license requirement could be waived for your first event and the answer was yes.

Speaking from experience?

My comment was in regards to reduced flexibility as we get older and the rather limited, ummm... wiggle room within a Fiero, nothing more.

It's really difficult, not enough room.

As to the racing, I guess I'll have to play around with Gretchin now that I've been told the pick-ups arn't allowed. I guess it'll help inspire me to fix that F&(<ing alternator...

Mel and I get that alot.

Might not be able to go on Sunday if Gretchin continues to act like a complete bitch. She's currently stuck in a parking lot in New West, with a short so bad it will stall out the car and bring it to being completely dead within seconds. Going to go bandaid fix it (See: Daisy chain in auxillary battery) to get her home, then we'll see if she's in working condition for autocross. If anyone has any other suggestions, feel free to phone. I'm off in the mean time.

I need to study for a midterm. Have fun!

From what I've seen, don't worry about the CACC license your first time out, but be sure to ask someone there about it. See if you can get someone experienced to ride with you too, I have found it to be very helpful.

What sort of things should I do to get the car ready? Just remove heavy/loose items around make sure tires etc are all filled up and good to go? Also just put on some more rain-x.

Should I leave the spare tire and stuff in the front or take it out? I feel like I should leave it in there for a little extra weight on the front wheels because I still think my front end is higher and has less grip for corners.

Since you won't want to leave anything in the rain:)

Pre:

- Drivers floor mat, leave it at home

- You are learning, leave all the spare tire and stuff in...you get a flat you may need it:)...and don't want to leaving it in the rain

- Battery has to be tight, not loose, and fluid colour...no so much as track events but they check

- And no loose items, again unless you have a container to leave everything in, leave it at home and stay dry:)

- Bring an umbrellla for when you are on off time and working the course

Keep it simple for your first time, and check out what the rest do, we have the challenge of no truck space, other do...and watch those who actually will still do a tire change:)

My dad will be coming in the minivan so I have a dry place to put everything that needs to come out, as well as a foldable shelter if there is a spot to put it up.
Thanks for the tips.

That was fun :D can't wait till next time.

Weather did clear up, still poured all morning and was windy for a little longer but got pretty dry for the last few runs. Everyone got 6 runs in, fastest time was around 53 seconds, my times were around 65, will find out for sure when times are posted later tonight.

and I didn't hit a single cone! but did get 2 DNFs for missing a gate and spinning out missing cones.

Video/pics to come

It's good to hear you had fun. Could you put up a picture of the course map? I'm curious to see how it looked.

I do have a scan of the course map at home, it wasn't much more
complex then the corvette course, just stretched out a bit and a little
tighter. . It wasn't until my last couple runs that I was able to see my
time since there was no board and no breaks. Had I known how slow
I was improbably would have picked it up a bit. Definately drove too
cautiously I think.

Usually there's a display with your time on it if you look towards the tents right after you finish. It took me a couple events before I realized that myself, and even then still I forget to look sometimes.

Knowing when you're slow and that you can take parts of the course quicker will come with practice. It took me several events to begin to get a good feel for my car to be able to increase speed slowly until finding my car's limit. You'll know when you're there because your first and last time will only be a few seconds apart. Part of this is also your ability to examine a course and make some decisions before doing any driving.

With the weather conditions in mind (dryer track in the afternoon), I suspect that yes, you weren't pushing yourself enough in your last two runs.

70.193   65.464   DNF   DNF   65.561   65.756

However, it was your first time out... you did fine.

Just think how much fun it'll be when we have about ten Fieros out at an autocross event and we all know what the heck we're doing.

http://forum.ubcscc.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3720 - CACC license requirements

Okay, I've got to ask now (after having read that thread)... Has anyone had their CACC license mailed to them after registering and participating in the http://www.westcoastfieros.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2132&PN=1&TPN=1 - VCMC autocross  a couple weekends ago?

It probably takes several weeks (I believe I saw reference to three weeks somewhere) to be processed (in which case we can review this situation in a couple more weeks), but I certainly haven't received anything up to this point.

There is a little bit more information on the http://www.vcmc.ca/forum/showthread.php?9622-License - VCMC forum , although it still leaves me a bit confused. My concern is that they won't process our licenses because they don't have any more events until next year.

Colby, who is this "they" you are referring to?

I would think that our $10 and personal information would be sent to CCAC from VCMC (who simply gathered/collected the fee/info) and it would be CCAC (not VCMC) who would be doing the actual processing.

CACC has no reason not to process our licenses promptly, because obviously, there are other autocross events scheduled for the remainder of the year.

Looks like a rather simple course, but it's great that you basically got to make use of the entire layout twice.

The person taking the pictures seemed to like your GT (judging from the number of times it shows up), and why wouldn't he? Looks good!

"They" is VCMC, and by process I mean fill out the form and send it in for us (or however they handle it).

That would be totally irresponsible of VCMC if that was the case as they're aware they aren't the only game in town.

We'll probably get the licenses in the mail in a couple of weeks from CACC... I hope.

I after all these years do not have one paper licence, especially a CACC one...would not worry, you have your scan tag which is your main number now for all events.

Brian, what exactly does that scan tag represent? Is it a VCMC issue (since for me, that's who I got it from) or is it CCAC to be used at all autocross events, no matter which particular club puts on the event?

I know that the same barcode can be used by both clubs, but I don't know if there's anything more to it than that or if it's just for convenience. It does have the CACC logo so it could be that there's more to it than that.

It's the bar code that counts...UBC & VCMC are sanctioned CACC events where PCA & BCCC are not, they are very social...again I had a CACC membership because I needed it for a Solo 2 event that we all had to pay a $55 membership...let's just say for one event there were many ticked off people.

The UBC folks (should) know that a VCMC membership includes the CACC membership so you should be good if you can show your VCMC membership card.  Even if you don't have anything from CACC yet.

Brian: Are you whining about having to pay $55 (license) + $50 (event fee) for one higher speed autox (Solo 1) at PM?  You mean you didn't find it a good value?  lol!

I'm not sure what'll happen when the current solosprint crowd finds out about the fee increases for Mission next year.....  Maybe you'll find more solosprints at PM?  Wait and see.

So, pardon my confusion, but then for us new registers, we pay $55 for the lisence every year, as well as $50 per autocross?

No confusion, read Allan's reply to mine...from this point you pay a
yearly membership renewal, if you want to Solo 1 at Mission then a
CACC license required, otherwise you are all good:)

Funny....I thought vcmc loved handing out their membership cards.

General terminology for folks:

autocross (aka autox) is also known as solo 2 (aka solosport).

solo 1 (aka solosprint) is what I call "autox on steroids".

autox is usually held on a parking lot, runway, or other flat chunk of pavement and typically has a max speed of 60mph (100 km/h).

solosprint (aka solo 1) is held at larger chunks of pavement or usually at a real race track like Mission.  solosprints have been held at Pitt Meadows in the past when they also book the adjoining runway and have longer, faster autox-type events.  I've been well over 140km/h there.  Hence, autox on steroids.

Solosprint at Mission raceway is a different animal.  It's run on the CACC race weekends and because of that, requires almost race-level of prep to your car and the driver.

4-point roll bar minimum and it must adhere to their design rules.  My bolt-in 4-point bar doesn't meet their specs so I can't run.

Full nomex driving suit, including gloves, socks, balaclava and shoes.  SA helmet required (no M).

Not sure what else they need.

It gets expensive to run at Mission.  Considering the increased fees coming next year and transponder rental, it'll start getting close to $180 per event unless they change the format.  Hence my thinking an option is to run more solosprints at PM.  Just a WAG though.

Those are solo 1 (solosprint) prices.

Not autox.  Autox is much cheaper.  Maybe the $10 annual CACC license is still required in the future....  Events are still $35-$40.
