Just wondering where I can get another gear for my speedo? The Fiero store doesn't sell them. My friends '86 is not the same. Any ideas please and thanks,

Andy

The dealer should sell or be able to get them.  This is going to be a more common problem now that our cars are getting older.  Having a good knowledge of trannys and what gears went with what tires, it is sometimes possible to get a gear to make an aftermarket wheel and tire swap read more correctly on the speedometer as well.

The plastic gear I'm looking for was connected to the little shaft on the sensor. Does anyone know if any years are compatable?

No one can answer your question without a few more details.

What Year do you have

What Trans Do you have

If a 5spd is it an Isuzu or a Getrag

What colour is your stock gear

'85, getrag 2.5 5 speed, bought the car without gear, so don't know color. My friends is bright red, it doesn't fit on mine.

There's something else wrong then - as they'll all "fit" - the speedo just won't read correctly!

Each color is just a different tooth count.

oh, got ya. Thanks for the help. So what color gear should I be looking for? I put in my friends sensor with his gear. Haven't test driven it yet. Working on the master cyl, slave and new centerforce clutch.

Hi, I'm still looking for the plastic gear for my speedo. I don't know the color it was. It's a 2.5L 5 speed tranny. 1985 notchback.

Thanks Andrew

Unless someone has gone to a great deal of work, all 4cly 5spd cars used an Isuzu trans.  Just go to your local dealer and ask for a new one for your car, or hit up a wreckers and find a 4cly trans and pull one.

I checked the wreckers and called GM, it's discontinued. I even called across Alberta to all the wreckers. No fieros in stock. Any more ideas?

Thanks

It doesn't NEED to come from a Fiero - All the trannies from almost all GM products are going to use the same sender - just the tooth count is different.

If you check your RPO sheet there will be various codes - one of which will be what the original sender and tranny was.

The trannies are:
MD9 3-speed automatic transmission (THM125C)

MG2 Transmission, manual, 5-speed (Muncie) 3.61 ratio

MG3 Transmission, manual, 5-speed (Muncie)

MM4 Transmission, manual, 4-speed, provisions (84-86)

MM5 Transmission, manual, 5-speed, provisions (85-88)

MT2 5-speed manual transmission (Isuzu) 3.35 ratio

MV9 3 speed automatic transmission (THM200C)

MX1 3 speed automatic transmission

MY7 4-speed manual transmission (Isuzu)

MY8 4-speed manual transmission (Muncie) 3.32 ratio

M17 4-speed manual transmission (Muncie) 3.65 ratio

M19 4-speed manual transmission (Muncie) 4.10 ratio

The senders are: D4N Gear, speedometer driven (N) 29 teeth 10041031 (red)
D4O Gear, speedometer driven (O) 30 teeth 10041032 (purple)
D4P Gear, speedometer driven (P) 30 teeth 25519845 (blue)
D4Q Gear, speedometer driven (Q) 31 teeth 25519846 (white)
