RBS is going to have the suspension tweaked first on a BUDGET

Clynt torching the old rubber bushings until they smoke, burn and slip off with Patrick pulling on chain.
We do it the biker way using a chain

Last year Blair gave me the front A-arms and spindles , so I can have them all ready to go for the install.
A-arms and spindles came from Brian's ride (you know they will be fast )

Hot damn! (Pardon the pun)

So, when are you boys putting in the new A-arms and spindles?

Blair showed me where he takes his parts for sand blasting at U-Blast in Langley http://www.langleyublast.com/Contact.aspx - HERE

That feels so good

This is what the parts look like when stripped to bare metal.
Got the rear knuckles from Harrison.

That's why Johnny hired Clynt & Patty's Budget Bushing Burning Business as we work cheap (for coffee and donuts).

I'm glad Johnny didn't post the picture of me on my ass when the first bushing popped out. I was pulling pretty hard as I didn't realize it would let go completely all of a sudden!

We should probably also mention that those images of Clynt and myself are a few months old. Yes, it's been a cool wet summer, but we're not still dressing quite that warmly this July.

It looks like next week now, the front bump stops have to be shorten first.

Raise rear bump stop by Inverting bump stop plate and painted all parts black with KYBees painted Koni red

Johnny, when I dropped by yesterday with the ball joint popping tool, you were wondering where the rear camber adjustment bolts went. As this image shows, they go in the bottom hole.

I know your bolts are a bit different (I believe they're the same as what Colby got), but these are what mine look like. Yours have the eccentric on the actual shaft of the bolt, whereas these have an eccentric washer that rides against the protrusions on the strut (as in the picture above).

Just have to slip on brakes next. As you can see in pic I've taken off all wheel well liners and later will be cutting wheel fender about 1"higher.

So I put on the old ones for now, where can I get those camber bolts you and Colby have ?

Those are the bolts I have and they make adjusting the camber soo much easier. Just spin them until the black part is as lined up to the rest of the bolt as it can be and slide them in. You turn the head of the bolt to adjust the camber.

I think the style of bolt that Patrick has actually lets you get a larger range of camber, but the bolts you have already should work fine.

Thanks Colby, I'll try it tomorrow

I have something similar to what Patrick posted.  However instead of a washer on the end, it is one molded oblong piece with degree's marked in it. Which allows you to set the wheels with the same camber.  I believe i bought it at Lordco for around 30 bucks.  I have them installed on all my pre 88 Fiero's.

As to how well that bump steer kit is going to work, it will be night and day, John you are going to love it.  Its the next best thing to installing an 88 Cradle in your car, and I'll bet with your fancy coil overs and really big tires, you should be even better off than any 88 on the road.   However please tell me that Blair has convinced you to go to the Lebaron brakes.  I am really scared for you.  At higher speeds, those stock Fiero rear brakes just are not going to give you the stopping power you will need to save RBS.  I know you like having an e-brake so Grand Am rear is out of the question, but look into the Lebaron swap.  I am sure Blair can tell you all the parts and cheaper ways of doing it.  Plus the larger brakes will look so Amazing behind you FAT wheels and tires.  Before you ask, yes you can go with Rear only Lebaron.  Mainly due to your really large rear tire.  There is no way you are going to lock it up even with the grand am on the rear before your fronts lock up, as you already have the equal to Grand Am front brakes.

I will chime in here and say Dave's suggestion is a very good one Johnny.

Our new car has this very same conversion and it rocks!  Lebaron rotors and Cadillac calipers. And yes, we have a functioning parking break also which is nice...:)

Not the easiest conversion to do however.  If you decide to try this you're welcome to come and see our setup.

Thanks Capt and Dawg for your suggestions going bigger brakes, that was always on my list, but you know I've been putting it off.
I love Willwood 13" or Corvette 12", but that's just a pipe dream , so lebaron it will probably be. Blair gave me the list of part for that.

FLASHBACK...

A couple mouths ago Clynt and Patrick helped me installing a larger brake booster for $50 from the wreckers.
Some fun shots of that swap, clynt showing me how it's done, then makes you do it

The brake booster did make a difference, it's a start for now.

Thank You John.  Do you have an area to hold on to it for a while as I am horribly busy right now. Working all week, Lisa and I's wedding anniversary, and then a bachelor party on Saturday and a Wedding on Sunday.  I am thinking I might try and paint it yellow and put it on the front of my 88GT, as the change is subtle enough that it might not get noticed by ICBC collector people.

Hard working pensioners...

Today was the hardest, taking off front a-arms, grinding torching
I was grinding headbolt, grinder kick up into coolant tube and sprung a leak

Clynt torching a-arm off

Finally a-arms are off and ready for a clean suspension install

Hi John, when it's time to bleed the coolant system -after it's fixed phone me. I will tell you the way that worked best for me when I did the install. The 3800 traps a lot of air.

Here is the RX7 nose, it was to wide and I cut it to fit, that was a long time ago (maybe 3-4 years).
Clynt and I took the nose down from the garage rafters, it was full of dust and place it in front and it wasn't going to
work out at all. It was way to wrong and too round. I'm going to use Tim's old stock nose that Dave gave me and I'll play
with that.

Way to round for me, the stock nose is easier to make changes to and it will fit

With Clynts chopper parked in the front driveway we hardly get any work done as people stop by and ask questions about his
chopper. One cool dude stopped by with his Mustang ragtop and he was just salivating over Clynts chopper, then he was
talking cars then ended up talking about politics to us

Clynt is finishing welding up the coneheads and tomorrow I'll start to install the new front suspension parts.

Clynt is welding up my leaky coolant tube that I mess up yesterday, the old A-Arm on top of the cooling tube is to weigh it down
while he is welding.

Johnny Boy, as much as I'm a huge proponent of weight reduction... You have a chopped front end with nothing in it. Out back, you have a large 3.8L V6 with a supercharger on top, and a small country's worth of bondo... We're going to need to take a mould, take of all the bondo and do a carbon fibre rear end, just to get the balance back.

I'm just trying to be practical here.

Thanks Don, with so much talent WCF Club has I'm surprised only you, Clynt and myself
are extreme Fieros modifiers

This is a CLIFFHANGER THREAD...
About the windshield, keep on checking back

Car-2-Lo;

I think the rest of them might be the smarter of the breed since they actually drive their's whereas all I do is work on mine changing more and more.....  I am having fun building for sure but I think it would also be fun to drive them.....

Keep up the great work on this one as it will be an interesting finished product

Cheers
Don

She's going for a tummy tuck... RBS is going to look lean, mean and sexy
Overall chop will end up 4" , making it miserable for Patrick

WOW!  Nince to see you're going VDC on the chopper. I like the front widnow modification. The elongated windsheild should allow the chopper to have a visuals for side profile.  keep up the good work.

With the new bump steer suspension, I had to relocate the sway-bar from the back to the front (just like Patrick did).
There was a hole already on the a-arms and I just flipped the sway-bar around and bolted to the cradle

Johnny, it's fortunate that the sway bar mounting brackets were able to be attached directly to the cradle (no spacers required) just in front of the lower control arm bushings. Looks great.

Heck yah! I thought RBS died in the last movie but she is going to be the million Dollar or idea girl   Movie two has started and I have lots of popcorn.  Think you should all be Emmy nominated for the great work you have done and what is still yet to come.

Thanks Terry, I have the DREAM TEAM working with RBS Project, Clynt, Patrick and Blair.

Edit: Terry, feel free to photoshop (have fun with it) the new RBS what it may look like with the extreme facelift,
lower, shorter nose, longer windshield, and 4" chop, combo look between a Ferrari and Lambo

Johnny, you're being far too kind to me. Blair did an amazing job with the 3800sc installation, and Clynt is being a huge help to you now with your body mods. But other than stopping by occasionally to make sure you're not hurting yourself, I haven't done a helluva lot!
