I was talking to Bassman when last in BC about tyto 888 tires for my 88.When running in B-ham last Sat I was thalking to several folks at the track and their input was 1.I could not use the 888 as a daily driver even with my super limited milage I plan for this car because they have a do not ever expose them to temps below 40 degrees F.they store theirs in the house during winter.I felt sure Bassman was using them on the street but did not ask about the cold or is that all just BS.It will be in a garage but not heated. 2.it looked like the 888 specks show my front wheels which are 6 in wide are 1/2 inch too narrow.for the 225/45zr15 that you are running on the front.Is you front wheel in fact 6 in wide? 3. some of them were touting the Dunlop Direzza sport Z1 Star Spec.as being almost as good as the 888 on the dry but better in the wet and would last 10 times longer and not have the cold restrictions.agine I sure like the way your car handles and you are living with it so what do you think.I need to run the tires I drive to the track because I cant change them with my bad hands or bring two cars to BC.

I can answer some of your questions. The '88s are the only year to come with 6" wide front wheels and 7" wide rear wheels. I agree that the 888 is not the best choice if you want to drive the car during colder temps and that a slightly less sticky street tire would be better for that. The only issue with these stickier tires is that the overall diameter is always going to be smaller than the stock tires. This applies to the 14" and 15" tires only. I think you have about 6 different tires to choose from then, unless you're OK with something less sticky (going from the original tires to any modern tire will be a huge improvement regardless). http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/articles/top-tires/ - Here is a nice article which might help you choose what tire to buy. ------------- 88 Formula 5 speed |

Charles, at the club meeting on Saturday, a club member attended with an '88 Formula equipped with GT lace wheels from an earlier year (much like you had thought of doing). The wheels were 7" wide front and back. Yes, if you knew what to look for, the front wheels stuck out a little bit. But heck, it wasn't too bad at all. Just mentioning this in case your 6" wide front wheels are a problem with the tires you eventually wish to buy.

Just wanted to ask if anyone has run #245/15" on the front of a Fiero. or are they to wide to work.thanks

I'm not sure, but it doesn't look there are very much, if any, tires available in that size today. Charles, if you want more options for tires I do happen to have a set of 16x7" rims that I don't want anymore. I was just asking if anyone has run that style of tire on the front of a Fiero,Some people have put up to #265-15" on the back,but iam not sure if the 245/15" if they will work on the front with out hiting the wheel well on the inside when your hard over on the wheel one way or the other.i had 4 given to me by a friend,they have a vary wide foot-1/2" wider than the 215s that are on my Fiero now.everything else looks like it will fit ok.they look like this.XT Renegade 245/60 R15 100T RWL ------------- SNOW MAN 87-GT/AUTO-2.8_ WHITE 88-TTop/ Duke-2.5. Well I have seen Fieros with 245's on the front, but not that size on stock rims. Those 245/60R15 tires are going to be a fair bit taller than stock though, and that may be an issue. ------------- 88 Formula 5 speed |

Charles...what tire you want to buy?...if your thinking those XT's DON'T!!!...not a good tire, and I think Artic was asking about size. The Hankook tire I posted was http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Hankook&tireModel=Ventus+Z214 - this one . Probably not appropriate to be driven on the street for too long. I think that is what bassman does but it is an 86 and I dont know how that changes things in the front Charles |

Oh god, I used to have staggered, directional tires. If one wore out, the set was essentially a wash. It was awful.  ------------- Never shift into reverse without a back-up plan. |

Crusty if you want the tires i have,you can have them for trade,all i need is 4 good tires for my car.whats on there now is unsafe to drive,even just on Sundays.i drive my car vary little! 4 used tires would be fine,use- not balled.LOL

Thanky you thank you.I will not drive it except to get the fuel filter change on Wed.I Paid them extra to show Shean how because I cant with my hands but i wont put him/us in danger.The tires on it have lots of tread and are probably safe in dry conditions They are 23 years old.I am trying to buy wheels and then tires so we can store the original wheels and tires on this car so Sean may care about it and carry it into the future in its original condition,I am not good with the computer but dont wont to convey that we cant be safe but on the other hand we need lots of help not to make mistakes along the way, Sean does not have his enhanced drivers license yet so he cant come to BC yet,Thank You so much for your offer but I will try not to endanger us,Thank you agine PS when is the next autocross in BC? |
