Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum, and new to Fiero's!
I'm 18, and just looking for my first car on craiglist,
when I fell in love with the Fiero GT. After seeing
pictures of a yellow Fiero with a F355 front bumper, I
frantically looked on craigslist for what would be my
first car. I've located one, and am going to look at it
tomorrow.
Are there any things I should be looking out for? It's a
1986 Fiero GT, with rebuilt engine sitting at 25k.
It's also matte red, and not the best looking externally,
but I plan on perhaps adding the f355 front bumper, and
painting it in the future.

Welcome to the addiction....:)
You didn't tell us what they're asking for it. Pretty much anything
you might run into we can show you how to fix. Fieros are one of the
most customizable cars ever made. So there's lots of options.
Just look for obvious stuff, rust, interior condition....etc. One thing to
look for is clutch problems. That can be costly.
If you don't get that one, let us know. There are some very nice cars
for sale by members also.

Oh, right. That's pretty important haha.
It's for sale at 2000, ready to be driven away. Apparently its runs and drives very smooth, and at 2k I
can afford to replace things if needed.
The only thing is that I've never formally driven a
standard, besides on back roads. So My father will be
driving it home for me, and probably test driving because
I'm not 100% confident yet, but I hope a good week of
driving will change that.
Quick question, say I was to buy the F355 Front bumper.
I'm obviously going to need to get it installed and the
whole car painted, seeing as it's Matte red at the
moment, which is not my choice of paint. I was thinking
of perhaps turning the front bumper fitment and body work
into a project, that way the paint job will cost less?
My goal is for it to look like:

The Yellow Fiero there, but the Red colour of the
previous one. I presume the paintjob will cost me around
1.5k-2k for quality, would doing my own body work lower
that?

Hi i am also a young recent first time fiero owner, so i know how it feels. When i bought mine 3 months ago that one was for sale, never went and saw it cause it wasnt quite what i was looking for.
But you can probably get the price down since its been for sale for so long.

For $2k you can't go wrong assuming he has all the paperwork
showing his motor actually was rebuilt.
Putting a new nose on a car is not easy. But if you're good
mechanically you should be able to do it. I and others on here can
help you through it.

I'm going to see it this afternoon, I'll be sure to get the
paperwork. I've never worked on a car before, but my father
has limited knowledge, so this should be quite the
adventure

So I picked it up today, my dad drove it home. It's looks
and drives good, save for a few small issues.
Now the first problem to deal with.... the one and only key
broke in half. How would I go about remedying this? My
insurance runs out at midnight tomorrow(need to get it
aircared, sigh), but the aircare place closes at 5, I get
off work at 4. So either I can get a key made by tomorrow
or it's another 55$ for temp. insurance...
Any ideas?

As hokey as it sounds, if the key broke clean (As in, you didn't bend it before it broke) you can put the pieces together, JB Weld them at the seam and get a copy made from that. You'll probably need another day's worth of insurence though.

Alright, so we got the lock unlocked via BCAA, and am
leaving it unlocked until tomorrow in the garage. I'll
get the aircar done, and insurance before time runs out,
then head to a locksmith or canadian tire(whoever can do
it) and get 2 sets made, crisis averted
On second though, I think I might keep the exterior
stock, except a paintjob and rims eventually. Though one
question, I'm not the biggest fan of the bottom of the
front bumper. It seems to come to to much of a point
compared to the rest of the body in my opinion, has
anyone seen pictures of perhaps a small lip, or even a
homemade one that offsets that?
To do list so far:
-Fix all mechanical issues( ex. E-brake )
-Restore interior with Mr.mikes seats, e-brake boot, etc
-Buy replacement parts for damaged or non-satisfactory
condition ( trim, locks for doors and deck lid)
-Paint job and Rims

Sounds like you have a little project, I have a few extra parts if you need them. Maybe you can swing by on a nice day when you get insurance and everything and see if i can help you get on your way to having a sweet ride.

That I do! I Love the feeling of just sitting in it,
looking at it.. I can see this being my car for a very,
very long time.
I'll do that for sure, but it won't be for a while. I've
learned "how" to drive standard, and have done so successfully on back roads in the past, but am not
confident to tackle city/highway driving as of yet, so
I'm going to practice the next month or so to the point
where its second nature before I start thinking about
making it a daily driver.

Crap I can't remember the dealership name, but look for Kris Duck on the forum, he goes by duck. He works in the parts department at a GM Dealership and has in the past been able to get me a key made from scratch with just the vin number from the car. That is assuming the locks are stock from the factory. Unfortunately there is no easy way to find out if the locks are stock, its easier to just bite the bullet and get the key, and hope it works. Trust me, the last thing you want to have to do is change out all the locks in the car, its not a fun job.

I got the key's re-made and they all work. Got two sets
done for under 15$ at the Shoe repair/lock smith place in
Willowbrook mall.
Funny you should mention that, Replacing all the locks is
on my list to do.. they are pretty worn out.
But Bestbuy only makes me so much money, time to prioritize

Cars back from the shop... 800$ later and still need to get
the e-brake replaced. I'll be happy when I can start on
making it look nice
