Hi Guys and Gals. Just lost all my coolant last night. Was very sudden and today looking to see where the leak (stream) is, it appears to be coming from above the alternater at the block or maybe the head area. By the way, this is a '87 GT V6. Is there a frost plug up there somewhere???? The leak is major. The car is entered in the Royal City Show and so I need to be able to get on this quick. With the recent back surgery I may not be able to do it right away if it a plug ------------- NEW THINGS COME IN WRINKLED BAGS TOO |

If it's on the front (meaning the pulley belt side) of the engine and just under (like the engine mount, I guess), then it is likely your water pump has given out and it's time to replace it. This is not uncommon. I had mine replaced about 8 years ago. You might get lucky and it might just be the hose. If it happened on TOP of the engine, again on the same side, your thermostat housing gasket might have went...or the hose (much more likely) that connects the outlet to the coolant pipe that runs along the firewall towards the driver side. If it is on the other side of the engine, there is a hose that connects the coolant pipe that runs along the firewall to the coolant pipe that runs along the kick panel under your car along the driver's side. That hose was the subject of a recall..oh..20 years ago. If that hose was already replace, it's time to replace it again. Hoses are another thing we need to be weary of in our cars. Good luck finding it.

the water is just pouring out right around the front motor mount and altinater brackets. it is a very severe leak.... more like a good flow and that is not running either so the system has no pressure in it at all. ------------- NEW THINGS COME IN WRINKLED BAGS TOO |

You have a frost plug or block heater in that area. If it has popped out due to age, (block heaters do that) then it is a simple mater of replacing that plug. I know it is kinda taboo, but I used one of those rubber expanding plugs in place of a blown block heater, and the plug out lasted the engine. So it might be a simple fix. Thanks. I have found that. It was a block heater in there. Got a new one cuz I figured it was going to be the easiest to replace. Was a bit different configuration and seems there is a block casting inside the block on the very bottom... Well you guess the rest. Now going to try to get a standard plug in there or find another block heater with the rubber. Just a terrible spot to get at. ------------- NEW THINGS COME IN WRINKLED BAGS TOO |

this happened on the way home last night very late coming from the shop. got to Harris rd and the dash light came on. limped down to Matsqui and found water and pop bottles in the garbage and a water outlet and did my best to get it cooled down, then came home to Mission. was pretty hot but no damage done. I was careful to cool it at home before shutting it down. have now installed a new frost plug in there and its all buttoned up. I will likely be at the shop most of the day tomrrow. come on down if you have the chance. the address is ???? lol. turn onto Telegragh Trail off 96th Ave, 1 block to 197B Street and turn right. 197B isd only a block long here and my shop is in the last complex on the right.... #202. So here is the scoop on the Frost Plug just above the front motor mount and altinator bracket. It is accessable from the passenger side wheel well. Remove the rubber graurd from the bottom of the suspension spring housing. Its a tight spot and at a bit of an angle but you can get your hand in there and a bar to set a new one if need be.
