Quote Hi all,

We have a Saturday, September 22 date for the Pitt Meadows Justice Institute area for out last autocross of the season.

If you wish to attend please email me with details of your car year, make, model and colour.

Registration will begin at 8:15 AM, and cost is still $40 per driver.

We will have a one hour lunch break during the day.

Vic Nightscales  mailto:vnightscales@aim.com - vnightscales@aim.com

Okay Colby, I expect to see you out there!  And Brian, what about you? Would love to see you out there as well.

Let's see a bunch of Fieros at this event. Should be a fun way to end this year's autocross season (for most of us). Come on out!

Unfortunately I won't be around that day.    Gary, I
expect you to find that gas pedal and keep it floored! You
can keep up to (and pass) Gary in his Corvette. He's your
target.

Excellent!

I've been in touch with another Fiero owner who hopes to make it out as well. This could be good.

I will see and let you know, considering day insurance this weekend and maybe a fun cruise on Sunday and see how my car is running...my concern is my clutch and the fluid contamination, and ifn the weather will turn after this week.

Brian, was no news good news? I didn't hear from you on the weekend, so I'm hoping this indicates that your clutch (and/or the fluid flushing) was okay.

The weather this weekend is supposed to be a continuation of what we're experiencing right now. In other words... Great!

Hi Guys,

Cars at home, paid for a oil change and now remember why I do it myself usually...I will put the R888's on Friday, the clutch is the concern and don't want to spend the money on DOT5 especially when she is back in storage on Monday.

I emailed Vic and said I'll be there...not sure all day but I'll be there...meet for breakfast?

Brian, I'd be happy to come by and help put the R888's on your car.

I'm leaving shortly to play hockey, and then this afternoon I'll be swapping over my own track tires/wheels, but if you like I could come over right after dinner... 7pm or so.

Just let me know.

Brian you have to go, you are like the spokes person for Fiero auto crossing.  Skip the bike ride, and get some rest.   Or better yet, go to the doctor make sure its not a serious chest infection.  Then drink lots of really hot coffee.  With my 4.9 heading off to FOY racing, I will be ready for next season to try my hand at Auto cross again.  (car is being shipped on a flat deck for the new power plant to be installed, will have an extra 100hp over what I have now)

Patrick can come beat down your door and install the tires/wheels for you, then threaten to take your car to the track if you don't go.

A little damp this morning, just enough to keep the dust down. However, it's not expected to rain today... so game on!

I hope you got lots of sleep Colby. I'm going to catch you and your Formula today.

It actually was a near perfect day for autocross. The track was dry, and we didn't get baked in the sun.

I suspect I put quite a scare into Colby this morning. At the lunch break (after four runs apiece), I had Colby by two seconds!

But give the Colbster credit, he turned on the afterburners in the afternoon and just smoked me. Good driving Colby!

Everyone did well... Brian, Harrison, Gary, Colby, and his friend Kris. I believe Gary has a photo of the times (as the Corvette club doesn't post them), and I'm sure there'll be a few videos uploaded as well.

It's possible that's the last time the mighty duke will race. I'm hoping to have an '86 GT ready to go by next year, but I move with glacial speed so who knows.

At the risk of destroying the formatting of this thread, I've edited Gary's image somewhat and enlarged it. It's too bad that the times aren't posted the way the Porsche club does it, as with their list we can also see what cars that people are driving.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyaldjFEiA4&feature=youtube_gdata - Brian

Colby, can you explain why the data in your video is properly synched up whereas the data lags behind in both Gary's and Harrison's videos?

Another question related to the first... If the "lag" time is consistant throughout the video, is there a way to simply shift the data in the editing software to match it up better with the video action?

In my dad's video, the data is from a slower lap, and in Harrison's video, the iPhone's GPS doesn't seem to provide enough accurate data for what we're doing here (might be fine on the street or a real race track). I used an external 5Hz GPS to get my data, and it's the right data for the lap.

Aw man, now you tell me! Through the wizardry of video editing I was trying to magically match up the video and the data. I couldn't understand why it would go out of sync in different places on the track.  No wonder!

Anyway, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykEb1ijq9sA&feature=youtu.be - Here is the (sort of) re-synched video of Gary's run.

Interesting, but what am I looking at exactly?  Is that what you're using to add data to your track videos?

I feel bad that all you guys have posted videos of your cars from last Saturday and I didn't take any footage. Well, here's my video from a week and a half ago.

I'm hoping to have shots of that Fiero on the track next year.

It was the first time I used this program for the video/data stuff. there is an option to offset the data when you put it all together but I wasn't sure how to make sure how much to change it. The iPhones GPS is only 1Hz and accurate to like 50 feet or something so makes for some pretty crappy data on small tracks like autoX's. I am looking into getting a better GPS unit so I can have more useful data at the end.

http://www.gps-laptimer.de/Home.html - this is what I used

Here's something to investigate:

http://www.petreldata.com - petreldata.com

I know Mike (the main fella behind this) and he's a super
avid autocrosser.

My old maxqdata setup was 10Hz and works fine for autox.
1Hz is way too slow.

Looks like some impressive software, too bad it as much as it does, but I guess it's targeted towards the more serious competitors. What I have now works well enough for me, even if it has some issues.

I actually think that 5Hz is just right for Autocross. The issue is that with the amount of error in these devices, you just aren't covering enough distance in 1/10th of a second for that error to be relatively small enough that you can comfortably ignore it. Of course you can always configure the 10Hz units to operate at 5Hz.
