Hi All

This is my first post to WestCoast Fieros. I have been lurking on here for years off and on and finally just picked up my first Fiero from a member of WCF. Unfortunately I have been to busy since picking it up to play with it and forgot to unhook the battery which is now dead. I wanted to put the battery on trickle charge but when I went to open the truck with the key, the key drum is so messed up it will not open with the key. Any suggestions on how to get into the trunk now? I was thinking of using an external 12v source and just connecting it directly to the trunk switch. Thanks for help!

I was in a very similar predicament as you are in right now: Try to find a screwdriver (with a flat end) and insert it in the trunk key hole opening (it should be a circle opening???). That's how I was able to get to my trunk.

I don't know the finer details (as I haven't had to do it myself), but you can power the system/charge the battery through the cigarette lighter.

And welcome to the world of Fieros!

i used to use a 9 volt battery and connect it to the back of the switch ...pretty easy just keep probing with 2 wire leads until you find the combo of the right 2 lol ....or look up the wiring diagram but whatever lol :)

good luck

Thanks Gents. 9volt worked eh? I'll give that a try first. the key drum is pretty buggered but if the 9vold doesn't work I'll try ramming a screw driver in there.

The lighter socket will indeed charge up the battery. But you must do
this slowly over night. Use your trickle charger rigged to a lighter plug.

I like how my solution is the most primitive of the bunch, says a lot about me.

I started out with the lighter socket first. Ran into my first problem: no lighter socket. I guess when the kid re-did the interior he didn't bother to put a lighter socket back in. So then I tried the screwdriver trick. Thought I had it as the drum seemed to be turned all the way but the trunk just would not pop. I moved on to the 9vold battery trick. I rigged up a couple wires to a 9volt battery and pulled the switch. I'm pretty sure I tried every possible combination and it still wouldn't pop. I need to get some grouting done on a tile today in the basement, so I'll have to come back to the Fiero later on. I'll probably give the 9volt another try with a new battery. If that doesn't work I'll either look up a wiring diagram or drill the drum right out. Thanks for the replies guys. Its must appreciated.

9 volt will work i think if i recall its the bottom 2 slots on the wire harness to the switch ...on the left side after you have the switch off ,,,just keep probing and look for the spark lol ...good luck bud :)

So finally got back to this. Been trying the 9v battery. I can hear the
relay clicking with certain combinations but the trunk won't pop. I tried
with the brake on and the e-brake on just in case with no success. Any
other suggestions?

Never mind. Got it figured. I pulled the leads off the stereo amp and
connected 12volts to them. Popped right away. :)
