hi , I know that you haven't heard or seen me for some time , but I was trying to get my blue 87 GT up and running. I had it running in the fall and put a fuel stabilized in the tank. ran it for a while then parked it for the winter. So today it would turn over but not start. I checked inside the distributor and it was all rusty, so I put in my spare one that was all nice and clean, made sure it was is the right spot for meshing the gear, Well it turned over and almost started , then the whole electrical system went dead!! no fuses blown, battery has a good charge, I don't know about the inline fuses , but what the heck would make that happen?? the computer ?? HELP!!!!!!!

Hey Rob. Dave or the Doctor will certainly jump in on this
one, but until they do, you'll have to get a meter and
start testing. First though, see if you have power at the
ignition switch, as I'm sure you've checked power out of
the battery. I have the manual if you need it.

If the majority of everything went dead in one shot - you probably
took out a fusable link. They're over by the battery. Google an
image, as it's hard to describe.

hi, thanks for the comments: I'll be checking the fuseable links near the battery this weekend, I have to store the car away from my house. Why would a major fuseable link blow ?
I checked the usual fuses..nothing. I guess you have to take off the cowing to check the ignition wireing..   I'll keep you posted.

Could be just oxidation at the electrical contacts . I
often have to pull the bulbs and fuses out just to clean
the contacts from time to time.

I have to take my battery disconnect switch apart and
clean it sometimes too.

It gets wet around these parts so routine maintenance is
not usually an option.

Hi, thanks for all the help. David called as well, but I ran out of time on last Sunday. So this weekend I clean every contact & recheck all the fuseable links.. hope to be there for the meeting..

Remember that the links are inside a 'tube' and you can't see them.

You have to usually grab the harness (where it goes over the water
pump pulley area) and give it a fairly hard tug. Look for things
'stretching' where they wouldn't otherwise.

SUCCESS!!!!!! so U realy cleaned all of the connectors on the small distribution block below the multi connector, and was checking the ground straps an the one from the block to the lid bolts looked ok , but when I removed it, it was all corroaded. Cleaned it ,and voila... electricals.. Of course now that I replaced the distributer, my timing is all out of wack.. thanks everyone for your help.!!
