Ok first off the number 1 cylinder is the one on the trunk side bank on the passenger side of the car.

Ok what you need to do is find out where the rotor is pointing when the Number 1 cyl is at top dead center compression.   Easiest way is to turn the engine over until the marker on the harmonic Balancer is at the Zero or close to the Zero on the timing tab.  Most people just use a large ratchet and socket to turn the motor by hand, but it is possible with luck to just bump it with the starter.   You want it at Top Dead Center compression.  The Mark can be at the Zero at either TDC Compression or TDC Exhaust.  However when you get the mark to Zero the rotor should be pointing in close or WAY off.  So when you get the rotor pointing close to where the #1 is on the cap, go ahead and set up your plug wires.

It can be a pain in the ass and in my early days I had to pay a Mobil mechanic $200 to come to my house and set it up for me.  There are Mobil mechanics you can call if you get too frustrated.  WEll I hope some of this helped.
