I haven’t been to Lordco for ages because I got so fed up with the different "discount" amounts they seem to invent on the spot. Often I would never get any discount and then of course end up paying a premium amount for the item.

Anyway, I was having a heck of a time finding copper based anti-seize compound, so out of desperation I went to Lordco because I was running out of options. They had exactly what I wanted, so I went to the cash register and had to disturb the two girls working there who were talking in depth about hair cuts.

The list price of this 226g brush-top bottle of Permatex copper anti-seize compound was $16.91, with tax $18.94.

To my surprise I was charged $10.98, with tax $12.30.

That’s a saving of 35%.

I’m happy, but why would I get such a healthy discount this time around?

Did the girls at the cash register simply like the cut of my gib or what?

I was told that the discount depends each year on how much was bought with the account the previous year- the more you buy, the more you save the next year.

But when you go up to the back counters to get stuff sometimes they can get you a pretty good discount there if you ask.

I went there today and saved almost 200$.

The discount varies from product to product.  Our club gets the biggest discount on Delco parts and the worst discount on Performance Parts.   All of the members with current paid dues should have the Lordco Card and the Lordco login to check our club costs online.  Its handy to be able to check our current pricing and know what our price is SUPPOSE to be, even before we talk to a Lordco counter person.

When I went to the cash register, the girl who served me mumbled something incomprehensible while looking the other way. It sounded to me like she was asking something about "a calendar".  I asked her if that's what she said. She looked at me like I was weird and asked me a second time (apparently) if I had an "account" there!  I said I didn't, and she then proceeded to make up the bill.

Maybe she just felt sorry for the old deaf guy .

Dave, I'll be a full-fledged paid up member of the club on September 13th. Bring the Lordco cards.

There use to be a couple real good guys there at PK, however they both got tired of the other internal idiots and left.  I moved most of my business to Mopac/Napa/Performance Parts Center, however there are still the times, that Lordco comes in handy and you just have to bit the bullet.

Best Tip to deal with Lordco is "Know exactly what you want" know who makes it and what the part number is.

You really can't get too upset with the guys working behind the counter, I highly doubt they get any formal training, they are just guys that need a job and get hired and payed very little.  (probably under 10 bucks an hour to start)

One more tip, probably the most important, try to get in good with a parts guy, then deal with him and him only.  It will be so nice when you can walk into a parts store, holler at him and simply say I need an alternator for "My" car and without even asking you anything, he already knows that you drive a Fiero with a V6 or V8 or whatever, and knows what brands of parts you prefer.    When I built my 4.9 V8 Fiero, I had one guy at Napa I dealt with and I spent several thousand dollars over a short period of time.   He even would give me parts to take home and TRY and bring back the ones that would not work with my setup.

I've never really had any problems with the people at lordco, I guess i just luck out and get the competent ones. But ya today I did notice there were a few that probably wouldn't be the best to deal with.

lol and there was also a pair of girls there talking about hair today too.

it's the one on kingsway in Burnaby btw.
