Topic: Recommended tire shop for 84 Fiero? Posted: 29 November 2012 at 4:18pm |
Hello,
One of my tires exploded -- the rubber on the side of my rims fell off -- on the Lions Gate Bridge -- and I am worried that other tires will follow suite. Both Walmart and Costco doesn't seem to sell any tires for cars belonging before the 1990 period, and the earliest Fiero for which Canadian Tire sells is the 1985 Fiero. Are there any recommended tire shops in Vancouver that you guy's recommend -- the tire can be both new or, if used, be in pretty good condition and be somewhat easy on the pockets? |

You may have to go to a slightly different profile tire. You can go with the same rim size, just do down a profile and up a width. Assuming you have the 13" rims you could also consider finding some cheap 14" rims or buying some decent 15" Fiero rims. Your 84 can use the rims from any year Fiero. Even the 88's although the 88 Rims carry a HUGE premium, tune the tune of at least 400 for a set. However the 14" Fiero rims can usually be had for 80 - 100 for a set of 4, sometimes with decent rubber on them.

If you are buying new tires for stock rims, pretty well the only tire available from a name brand is BF Goodrich Radial TAs. They only come in an S speed rating, which is one lower than the tires that came with new Fieros. New Fieros came with tires with an H speed rating. Hence, even if you could get the BFG Radial TAs, Costco will not install them for you. They're tire shop license only allows them to install tires that are equivalent to those your car came with in size and speed rating.
The only other brand I know for sure that has the correct size for stock Fiero wheels are Nexen. You can get Nexen tires from National Tire Wholesale in Delta and maybe Walmart. The Nexen tires do have a H speed rating. However, the sidewall profile looks a bit balloon shaped so some people might not like that look. The tire works fine for most people. I'm using the BFG Radial TAs. I don't drive my Fiero very hard anymore, so they are fine. |
