Sorry for jumping ahead David - I do all my best work at 1am!

For the few people who were not in attendence, you missed another great meeting! Right off the bat, I do believe our voting methods must have been spot on, because the 6pm start time had tons of people arriving, looking at eachothers cars (And in one particular case, repairing them. I'll let David explain that one. ) and socializing. Grokan's fastback was there with it's new paint job and smoked tail lights, Marcel's sex-tacular BMW V12 (H12), David's thunderous 857 and Ken So's COLLECTOR '85 (Congradulations!).

During the meeting, we spoke of the upcoming Chocolates and Coffee run, which is looking like a noon start time, although any thoughts on the matter are still welcome. Also mentioned was the upcoming Arlington run/food arrangements/leap-frogging (Don't forget your passports/IDs boys and girls!) and the All-Pontiac Show, which will now be held at the Barnes-Wheaton Chevy dealership.

At this point, our lovely Mini Vana White elected to do the 50-50 draw, dinner give-away and door prizes. I picked up "cordless screwdrivers". A very bizarre title I noticed, given that all screwdrivers are inheritely cordless.

When discussions resumed, we found ourselves on the topic of collector status, and notably what can and cannot be allowed, as well as the repricussions for alterations post-inspection (The discussion on this was well beyond the scope of this post. If enough interest is shown, I can post a second topic about what was discussed, and Ken and John could provide further information). Discussion then shifted to Damien's version of the aluminum cradle bushings, and his wife's lovely, hand-turned shift knobs, for those who are interested. The discussion finally shifted into high gear (Pun!) regarding auto-cross, and bizarrely, rally-racing. Bryan wisely suggests driving classes for anyone curious about auto-cross, and also brought up the fact he is now the co-pilot in a monstrous Yaris in a rally race series. Lastly, the rumors of Merritt getting a full blown race track, featuring an 1/8th mile, Rally section and Circuit track were discussed briefly. Anyone with too much money, feel free to help push the cause!

As the meeting finally died down, and people dwindled, the sea of black Fieros (I think there was some other colors in there. Couldn't see past all the black ones though! ) poured out.

As a special side note to Patrick and Luke, I did finally catch the ricer Civic, and passed him doing something north of 140. Couldn't really tell what though.

Never shift into reverse without a back-up plan.

Yes, I apologize for also driving my black GT tonight, but I didn't want to take my gold '84 quite that far (from Vancouver to Langley) on its maiden voyage.

The way some of you guys peeled out of the parking lot and down the street on the wet pavement, I was wondering if you'd all make it home in one piece. Damn kids!

Good write up. Thanks Tristan.

By the way, just thought I'd mention that it's a good thing to double-check the dollar amount of the VISA or debit card charge when you're okaying your purchase. I discovered the restaurant tonight tried to charge me for someone else's meal (a more expensive one naturally) even though I had just seconds earlier handed them my bill. A little suspicious... Makes me wonder how many people just go ahead and plug in their PIN and walk away not realizing they just got shafted. (No, it wasn't our cute server who juggled the bills at the front desk.)

At the next meeting...  we're going to have a flashback to many years ago.  We had a 'mandatory' course in - PARKING STYLE.

If you look at the 'old' group shots, you'll see that we had a system down of a few things;
Everyone (at least tries to) park in the same area.
Tries to back into your spot.
Line up mirrors.
Space out (left/right) evenly.

It just makes for a more 'presentable' looking group, not like a bunch of whacked out nut jobs that just poured in.  The group photo's also come out much nicer.

So - next time - let's give it a shot!

Hey, I got moved out of my spot, where I was centered, and backed in... Only to have some other Fiero come into my spot right after.

I refute your system.

No matter how orderly we may park our cars, we're still the same bunch of "whacked out nut jobs".

That restaurant we used to meet at a couple years ago (the place that was always in a big rush to get us out of there) had the best parking lot by far for showing off our cars nicely.

So it's not like the club members don't wish to present our cars or ourselves in a civilized manner, it's just a much bigger challenge where we currently meet.

But sure, let's aim for a more concentrated effort next time. We can start by suggesting what area of the parking lot to focus on for parking our cars next month (keeping in mind of course that there may be all sorts of "intruders" in the way).

We might want to park our Fieros in a straight line all along the north end (top) of the parking lot. Otherwise we'll probably always be mixed up with other cars.

Looks like it got dark pretty fast so I wasn't able to get that many pictures. There were a few I had to toss because they just didn't come out.

On the topic of Driving Skills courses, the BMW club has their car control course this weekend. They generally have two a year. The winter car control course is also available in the late fall. You have to take one of their car control courses before you can take any of the others.

Damn Patty, you went balls-out...

Also, does anyone know if we're allowed back, after the two drifts and four burnouts?

Here's a picture from our parking job at our March 2009 meeting.

This year, there were a few cars other than black ones. Mine is white but looks black because it got dark outside. Tim's car and the Ferrari pictures didn't come out very well. Sorry about that.

This will pre-date 1/2 or more of you, but...  this is what I still feel was the best meeting location (parking wise!) -- Excaliber Bowling.

This was from May 11 - 2002.

And...  you can only see a portion of the cars that turned out that day!  The rest are in the other half of the lot.  It was great though, because you could have probably 40 cars all in one spot at the far end of the lot where not many people tended to park.
